What is your most accurate factory load for your Rem. Model 7 CDL .308?

I just picked up a Remington Model 7 CDL in .308. So far, the most accurate factory load I have found for this rifle is the Winchester 150 grain Ballistic Silvertip. I'm getting 2" groups at 100 yards with this load. I was hoping for a tighter group than that. Am I expecting too much out of this rifle with factory ammo?

I'm hoping some of you who own a Model 7 .308 can give me some tips on the most accurate factory loads you have found so far. I don't reload but I'm giving it some serious thought about starting to over the winter.

i have a mod 7 in 243, tite groups are not its norm. however when sighted in correctly the first shot always goes where its posed to and it never fails to bring home the bacon{or the deer steak}if yur sighting it in allow for the short barrel and take plenty of time tween shots to allow barrel to cool.jus remember its not a benchrest rifle, its a handy woods rifle and and it will gladly perform as such.

Same here. Have been using them (150 coreloks (sp?)) in my Model 7 for 20 years. Just killed a 6 pointer Nov.8 with it. Use a Leupold VXII 3 x 9 40mm. Great gun for here in Fla. and for use in a tree stand.

I apologize for not thanking everyone for taking the time to respond to my question. I just got back from camp but unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to use my Model 7. It's a pleasure carrying the rifle which makes it easier to accept a 2" group. I'm going to start reloading this winter so maybe I can improve on it a little bit with my own loads.

This site is great! It's the first place I go to when I log into the internet. I expect I will be asking many more questions in the future. One of these days, I hope I can provide some useful information. Many thanks!

My rifle likes el cheapo WallyWorld Federal 180 gr Vital-Shoks. They also work like a death-ray on boar at sane ranges.

I've got 2 of the old (18.5 inch barrel) M7's; a 7/08 and a .260.  They both shoot into an inch.  I don't use much factory ammunition, and but when I do it's to establish a control group for handload development.  But!     If I had a M7 in 308, and if I was going to shoot factory ammo in it, I'd just buy Remington or Federal 150 gr loads and not worry about it.  You already know it's a 2 inch rifle with what you're using, and that's fine... for a starting point!     And it will do for most deer hunting.   

But!    I would make sure the barrel is fully floated, then bed the recoil lug and see how it shoots with the same ammo.  I'd expect a noticeable improvement!  Then I would get involved in the joy of handloading!    But that's just me...    And I'm told I'm kind of an anal type...    Not by my gay acquaintances though...

My 308 is'nt a model 7, it's a 7600 carbine. Fusion 180's shoot into the same hole. 180 remingtons, either the pointed or roundnose shoot almost as well.

Freefloating and bedding got My Model 7 CDL 350 mag. from 2" down to 1" groups. I may go through the same with My new Model 700 CDL 35 Whelen.
