Buckhammers on deer

Has anyone used the 2 3/4 inchers on deer? How well did they work?

They work great out of my rifled barrel 870. I've taken two deer with them and they hit with authority out to 100yds.

anyone try these in 20 guage? thinking of it as they are less expensive than lightfields. I heard $6-7 a box vs, $12-13 I paid this year.  Mike

I didn't even know they made them in 20 gauge.    I'll have to give them a try thru my Saiga 20 as it's going to be my new deer gun.

I shot two deer with 20 gauge Buckhammers. Both were double lung broadside hits, the longest was 80 yards. Deer were both down in 30-40 yards. Complete pass through, nasty holes.

I have been using 2 3/4in Buckhammers out of my 12ga 870 (SPS/23in fully rifled/cantilevered Nikon Slug scope) for the past couple of years.  It shoots around 3 inch groups (3 shots) @ 100 yds consistently.  My last range session it put 9 shots (three 3 shot groups on top of each other) inside about 4.5in.  It's put every deer hit down hard on the spot.   I did a lot of testing of available loads a couple years back and the biggest factor in accuracy was muzzle velocity.  Any slug in the 14-1600 fps range shot pretty well.  Without exception the hi speed 1850-1950fps loads opened up a lot (4-6in or more @ 100yds). 

I have also run the 20 ga Buckhammers thru my 20 ga H&R/NEF Ultra Slug barrel.  It shoots equally well, but I always seem to end up with the 50 ML barrel on that frame when deer season rolls around so I can't claim any field results yet.

I have a Beretta A303 with a Hasting Paradox cantilever barrel, 12 GA, with a 3x9x40 Leupold Rifleman Shotgun/MZ scope.  I have shot about 20 boxes of 2 3/4 Buckhammers at the range and have had zero flyers.  At 100 yds get 3 inch groups.  These kick like a mule in this gun but they work well on deer.  I have shot 2 buck hammers in the field and put 2 deer in the freezer.  One dropped on the spot other went about 30 yds.  Major league damage to the vitals. 

Last fall Gander Mountain (Dayton, OH) was selling the 2 3/4 12 ga buckhammers for $6.99.  Seems like Cabelas, Bass Pro etc. wanted a lot more for them.

I have been working with the 2 3/4 buckhammers in one of the fairly new H&R ULSH.s Haven't had a chance to try them on game yet. Have been somewhat impressed so far as to what I'm getting for accuracy. Shot them again yesterday mostly at 100 yds.Tried cleaning barrel between every shot this time. Best group this way was 1 1/2" 3 shot group, I have rifles that won't do this. They do  appear to drop quickly beyond 120-130 yds. Don't really think I care though, as long as I know what the drop will be at whatever yds. I guess at this point I would have to say they have my approval.Alsredoak

I have been using the 3" (12 ga.) on Spring bear for the last three years out of a Ultra Slug H&R. 5 bear......0 Steps!! I cannot say enough about the devastation inflicted by this load. I shot a very nice boar in Alberta that was standing up like a man attempting to grab a beaver......so help me his head struck the ground before his back! Sort of like those killer shots some NFL receivers get coming across the middle!!
