I saw a Winchester Trails End the other day for $360.  I think that is about the going price for the guns in a pistol caliber.  The 30-30 may be a little cheaper.

my choice would be the 44mag.  have used it in lever actions and revolvers and a contender.  I know there are a bunch of 30/30 fans out there but I have not met one face to face.  Most of the feed back from hunting buddies has been negative.  Try these links.

I would go with the 44 mag. I just like big fat bullets and for a 100 yard deer gun it's nice. If you have 44 pistol it would make for a nice compliment.

I just purchased a mint, never fired 94ae in 44mag pack rifle version used for $225. It has the 18 inch bbl with the pistol grip stock.

Today, I almost bought another 94ae in 30-30. Its the Ranger version with the 20bbl and straight grip birch stock. This one was also used and came with a 3-9x40 older and pretty decent tasco scope mounted on it for $240. It was also in near perfect condition. Without the scope the giy said he would sell it for $225. This one was actually a personal gun of the shop owner. Not a nick, ding or a scratch on it anywere.

I have seen many of these latley and the $175 to $275 seems the norm.

I looked at 2 today. One 30/30 and one 44 Mag. Both were AEs pre-cross bolt. The 44 had stunning wood and the asking was $300. The 30/30 was in good shape with decent wood, those Gawdawful see-thru rings and a 3-9 Bushnell (I think?) for $285. Sean
