I've shot the 300gr TSX-FB at 2320fps in my SS 45-70 Ultra Hunter, it's very accurate with H4198 using their data, it's should perform great on deer and hogs. The 450gr XFB isn't a 45-70 bullet, it's meant for the bigger .458" big bores like the 458WM and Lott.

Sneak up on 'em and put the barrel right behind their left ear. That 450 grain TSX will put 'em down! ::) ;D ;D

I think the 450gr would work like a solid pretty much unless you were real close, then it might expand some with stout loads. Good thing you got em on sale, even the 300gr sells for $1 each!! :o Of course if you can get better velocity out of the 32" BC barrel, it may work well, with 350gr bullets and the right powder, I get 150-200fps more velocity in the BC than the 22" Handi barrel, Barnes' data shows 2000-2200fps working velocity for the 450gr in the 458WM, of course if you can get there, you'll probably want that brake!!! ;D

What ranges are you thinking of for the hogs?  I have some 550 gr hard cast JB Young bullets that I'm pretty sure will do in even hogzilla at 100 yards. Nice big meplat and plenty of mass.  Kick like a T-eed of mule at 1650 fps though.

I know Tye has slammed those into his 45-120, will there even be room for powder in a 45-70 case after you seat that thing?

Tim,
Do you just fire them with a primer? There can't be much room left for powder! LOL I found the 460gr. Cast Performance bullets to be the most accurate in my gun with 38.0gr. of RL-7.

Haven't loaded any of em yet Don, I got em to load in the 45-120, but Tyler tried em in his 45-120 and they keyholed!

Tim,
I'm not much on math, but I wonder what the proper twist rate would be for that bullet based on the Grreenhill Formula?

Here's ya go!! I figured this out once before, I'd need to achieve 2050fps with it before a 1:20" twist would work, that's not possible in a 45-70, but may be doable in a 45-120 BC at about 50kpsi!! :o  Bullet is 1.68" long.
