? about 45/90-120

I have a spare 45/70 barrel would I gain anything by reaming to a 45/90 or 120. This is a std length barrel?

What do you want to gain other than the shock and awe factor of those 4" long cartridges?  :D

Tim we are starting to get a lot feral hogs on our deer lease. Didn't know what powder would get me a good burn on the short barrel using some of your big grain bullets.

I'd just ream the throat on it and load long, a 45-70 Magnum.  ;)

For sure you will gain velocity at the same pressure, but it isn't for everyone.  A hog that a hot 45-70 won't kill is probably hogzilla's bigger brother.

Ten Ring - the 45-90 makes for an excellent 1000yd target round, especially using original gunpowder.  Then again, if it is to be a hunting rifle only - no gain going to a 2.4" case because a 2.1" case will take down buffalo, handily
