« on: November 05, 2008, 06:29:48 AM »
I tried the search feature, no luck.Has anyone rechambered a NEF from the 39mm to the 54mm.???
I know that a new extractor would be needed but what other problems have I not thought of  ???

Use "62x54" as your search term and 0 to 1000 days in the time field.  There are a few threads from around 2 years ago.

You most likely will run into the same problem that sounded the death knell for the 7.62X39.Hard military primers in milsurp ammunition that the Handi firing pin just will not strike with enough force to ignite.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70..it's almost a religion.

Are there any other calibers that can be rechambered to the 54R??

I know you asked about the 7.62x54 but have you given any thought to the .303 British??

Just don't shoot surplus, NEF recommends not to anyway. 54R would be a nice deer rifle in the handie platform. Probably need a .45-70 extractor. I use .303 bullets to load my 7.62x54r and they work great, you can probably use some .30cal bullets depending on the bore size, some .310 bore rifles shoot .308 bullets just fine.

BTW I think this would make a great cast bullet rifle. 8)

The Handi 7.62x39 bore is .311. I have heard the Sierra 125 and 150gr prohunter bullets work well in .313 if you can find them. I have had great luck with the Fed american eagle sp 123gr but am now having a hard time finding it in soft point so I will start to reload for it just hope I can make same round as the factory as it is so accurate all I can do is make it worse by reloading for it.
