Anyone tried some of the new Leverevolution ammo in 45/70 yet.Does the bullet look like it will hold up for bear.

Well I bought a couple of boxes and fired three rounds at fifty yards with open sights.Very happy with group and recoil out of my #3.Still don't know how the bullet will hold up to bone in heavy game but that will be another test, now where did I put that engine block.

I want it to be able to break down the front end of something in the 800# range that might bite you back.

There are better rounds out there for what you want to do. The Lever eveloution is great ammo for non dangerous game but if you are hunting Brown Bear, you may want to look into the Buffalo Bore selections. Some of there offerings are better suited to what You want to accomplish.

For DG's there are Speer, and other Hornady bullets available that will work
The Hdy 350 RN& FN and 500 gr. RN are tough bullets.

Card Cast bullets are also an option, I would go over 400 gr. with those.

Here's a little performance info on deer, the LE ammo runs a little over 2000fps from the 24" H&R barrel.

When I left Alaska in 95 I gave away my Marlin 45/70 and all reloads and reloading gear to a friend.Never figured I would go back. I used the Hornady 350gn RN at 1880pfs to take two brown and nine black bears in a little over six years. The blacks were all winter food, one browning was a problem that would not go away over a couple of years and one was a rug I wanted before heading south.I'm not going to start reloading again and would prefer to just haul a couple hundred good rounds back with me when I return. No desire to shoot another Brownie unless again its a problem that won't go away like the first. The 45/70 is what everything I hunt will be taken with. Even if just hunting deer you still got to cover yourself at the gutpile. May just buy one box of the Buffalo bores and carry a few rounds to get out of the woods after the hunt.On regular days just have a 12 ga.handy which seams to be about the best real everyday protection when fishing or just walking around.
