« on: October 30, 2008, 11:33:46 AM »
Anyone know where I can find a step-by-step guide to taking the trigger assembly apart in order to polish everything and install a lighter spring?

thanks,
Randy

Randy-
Send a PM and I'll gladly walk you through it.  Removal and replacement is easy...you are on you own for polishing everything.

Pards-
To others who may want to know how to swap Ruger SA springs, I will initially refer you to another gentleman's page:
http://marauder.homestead.com/irons.html
This gentleman has kindly put a ton of good info on cowboy gun tuning on his site.  One reference will take you to www.Brownells.com where a really good blow by blow spring change takes place.
Also look at www.cylindersmith.com/ruger-spring.html for a much simplified method of changing out the mainspring which is the only tricky part.  I use a "fork technique" for compressing the spring.
I take no credit for this material.  It is readily available on the web and I thank these kind folks for sharing!
I will try to help if you get stuck!

look at your manual it pretty much describes and pictures what you have to do to break down your ruger. if you do not have one call ruger they"ll
send one to you.
Dan Deluca aka "warrior1" has passed away.  Dan was a frequent poster here and on several other sites.  He passed away on 12/29/08 from a massive heart attack. RIP Dan.

the ruger manual has very good disassembly/reassembly instructions....you can do a good trigger job by just disassembling, study the trigger and transfer bar assembly to see how parts interact and polishing these parts...get a assortment of hammer springs and trigger springs, polish up the parts(i've done three guns and didn't touch the hammer/sear engagement)..try various spring combinations and you can get a nice 2 1/2-3# trigger.....don't be afraid to give it a shot
