American Rifleman reports "stamped" receiver 750's !
« on: October 29, 2008, 02:49:40 PM »
 ???
Hello all,
The American Rifleman magazine(November) article on Remington autoloading rifles lists among the specifications for the Model 750, a receiver constructed of "STAMPED" steel !  This is not correct, is it ?  The photo shows what appears to me to be a receiver machined from a solid block of steel, the same as the 742s, 7400s, 760s, and 7600s have always had.  As an owner of a 760 and a fan of this "family" of rifles, I was greatly alarmed when I read this.  If untrue, Remington will certainly want the magazine to print a correction !  Prospective buyers might be turned off by this "stamped" receiver.  What do you think ? Someone should contact both Remington and the magazine.

Geez Cracko,

Just pick up the phone, and call the NRA, and ask them to put you in touch with the guy who wrote the article. He is probably on their technical staff, sitting in the NRA building in Fairfax VA.   Get him on the phone and ask him whether the receiver was really stamped or not.  He can probably clear up the question in 2 minutes.  If he finds that he made a mistake, he will happily print a correct in the next issue.  Remington won't have to demand the correction.

Best,

Mannyrock

I sent an email to Remington FAQ's and asked them if it was stamped steel.  I said before I buy a Model 750 I would like to know if it is or isn't.  If they don't tell me it is or isn't that means it is.  I will not buy one and I was just starting to get the feeling I needed one.   That is a terrible shame to cheapen a rifle up just so you can make a little more money on.  Dammed Accountants.  FN Mauser has fine quality in there rifles and I don't think they would create this act of blasphemy.

Certain things in life you want real quality in and it is your personal hunting weapons.

Here is the answer from Remington on the question of stamped receiver.  It pretty quick and short and answers the question about the stamped receiver.

I would have been very upset if it was a stamped receiver.  Now I can consider a Model 750 in .308 Winchester the only thing I don't like is the Monte Carlo stock.  But I can replace that.  Its very hard to use open sights with a Monte Carlo stock.
