45/70 same bullet

doesn't the 45/70 shoot the same DIA. bullet that the 458 shoots or is it different?

45 rifles all use 458s as far as I know. Handguns get more complicated, some using 451s and others 454s but I think that modern guns are becoming more standardized.

Commercial barrel groove diameter has always been .457/.458 for the 45-70. However original trapdoor barrel groove diameters ran from .459 to .465 (some reported as larger) with most being in the .460 to .462 range.

It's the same nominal diameter, but bullets tend to not be interchangeable as jacket thickness for 458WM is heavier, and will not deform at 45/70 velocity, vice versa, 45/70 bullets will frag at 458WM velocity.
