H&R 155 44mag

Just picked up a nearly new 155.  Been looking for years and found one.  IIRC, this gun has a cast receiver and it would be a no-no to rechamber to 445SM, not to mention doing this to a hard to come by rifle.  Opinions appreciated. Thanks

Hey there!!  CONGRATULATIONS of the purchase!!!

 I have one of these as well, I recently got it and haven't shot it yet. I do have a couple boxes of ammo ready to go once I get a chance!!

 BTW here is a couple pics of mine.

Recently I have swapped out the stocks for straight set of orange lams, added a recoil pad and changed the sites. (I really hate the Williams fold down site.)

You are absolutely correct, I think it would be dangerous to rechamber that fine rifle into a 445. The 44 is enough as long as you do not try to stretch it too far.

Nice ;D You could tape the rod to the butt stock ::) More serious - you could drill a hole in the front of the fore end and cut down the rod and put it in, just for the looks, just a thought.

Thought about that.. still undesided.
 Like you say its just for looks, wish the "lug" came off with screws or like attachment. I'd just remove it. 
  May make up a dummy, but I'm resistant to alter the stocks. I dont really have a good reason or know why, just dont want to mess with them.  I havent seen any others like them. I'll figure something out!!  ;D

It is a very nice rifle. I am sure you will figure some thing out ;) I do not have one so I do not know how it is attached. If it is dovetailed, there are blocks you can buy that fill the void. I think they need to be filed down to fit your barrel profile and then blued. If it is welded on, you might grind it off then reblue that area. Silver solder can be melted off, just watch heating the barrel too much. Just throwing some thoughts out there.

The rod lugs are brazed on and will come right off with heat. Just heat the lug directly with a propane torch and bust it with a hammer (then chase a hot lug around the garage!). It doesn't harm the barrel and the slight dimple left in the lug
mounting area doesn't look bad. Touch up with cold blue.
