My father got drawn for the Maine Moose lottery and wants to use my t/c for the hunt. Anyone got any suggestions on loads that they HAVE tried on large game? Clean shot is my prefered powder.

I have not shot game with the bullet but my 209x50 shoots real well with the Barnes Expander MZ bullet and Sabot with 100 gr of Clean Shot. As I said no personal experience but I think that Barnes Bullets have a very good rep for on game performance. They are a little more spendy around $10 for 10 but a Moose would be worth it to me. I wouldn't trust Barnes bullets on Moose. Take a look at what PRbullets.com has to offer and get in touch with Cecil. He will set you up with what you need. Good luck!

Have you used them on Moose? What was your bad experience with Barnes Xpander MZ's? Did they fail on a Moose You shot? Let's hear it. Sean

I have never hunted moose, yet. The barnes bullet is a rapidly expanding type of bullet and would more than likely not be able to penetrate thru a large animal such as a moose. They do work great on whitetails. Take a look at the PRbullets website and give Cecil a call. He will set you up with exactly what you need and you won't believe how accurate his bullets are.

A friend of mine killed a moose with a .50 cal round ball. My uncle killed one with a .270, using standard Remington 130 gr bullets. I don't believe that a person would have a problem killing a Moose dead with the X-Pander MZ. Sean
