A Handi Rifle from Wal Mart?
« on: October 15, 2008, 07:43:35 PM »
I was just pricing out HR's in 30-30 and stumbled upon Wally World's listing for them as special order items. Since it seems the only way to get 'em around here (Raleigh) is special order I was wondering if you gents had gotten one from Walmart before, and if so, what was the price?

Thanks,
Brian Why

Oh, and Thanks to everyone for the treasures of info you've posted.

Welcome to GBO. I suggest you read the FAQ section at the top of this forum, it has lots of good information about Handis. My first Handi was from Walmart, special order. It was a 223 Ultra Varmint - cost $250. That was over two years ago. They have went up since then. At the time and I suspect now, is the best price I could get. Before you order, have them check that you can get it (it is in stock). So you will not be disappointed with a possible long wait. Realize also that not all Walmarts handle guns. I have several in my area that do not handle guns, I had to travel 35 miles to one that does handle guns.

$250 for Handi rifles at mine...  The local shop in Baton Rouge, Bowie Outfitters, has better pricing and selection than wallyworld.

PPCFlyer - When I got my Ultra the local Walmart sold guns, so I did not have to drive very far to get it. I found lower prices, but unless I lived within easy driving distance of the store front, by the time I paid shipping and transfer fees I would have as much or more in it that just getting straight through Walmart, so why bother? Lucky you that your local shop sells them cheap. ;D

Our local Walmart had a .45-70 for $225.00 a few months ago.

It seems that WalMart is targeting a different customer than it did at its beginning.  Not only don't my local stores not carry guns, but the closest one no longer carries muzzleloading accessories.  The local gun shops have Handys at the same prices as they do when you can find a location that still sells them.

Go to White Oak shopping center and get one at the Dick's there.  I got a Sportster there last month for $40 less than at the other Dick's in Raleigh (I'd been in it that same day, the wife was on a shopping spree). If they don't have one in stock they will usually ship from another Dick's.  If that doesn't work drive down 85 to the Bass Pro Shop in Concorde Mills.  They have everything a real man could want, my wife had to drag me out after 2 1/2 hours in August.

Absolutely nothing wrong with buying guns at WalMart if they sell them.  Don't expect the salesperson behind the counter to always know much about the product so be sure of what you want.  I've bought several guns at WalMart and not only are they the same as those sold else where, but I've always saved money compared to other locations.

Or a Sportster, that's the 22Lr selling price.
