ruger single action
« on: October 14, 2008, 05:43:29 PM »
I'm working on a new model single six that came to me with a broken hammer plunger. After replacement it binds at halfcock. Anybody run into this?

For the life of me, I don't know what you refering to as a "plunger".  If perhaps it's the cylinder hand and if it's binding up the hammer, could it be you haven't reinstalled the cylinder.  If so, put the cylinder back in and try it.  Good luck,  Walt

Yes, the plungers are easily made from 1/16" drill bits if you break another one too. There is a modification which floats around from time to time on the forums and along with it is a drawing. I'll send you the drawing in a pm.

if you have your cylinder out of the gun and the base pin puilled all the way out, your gun will not cock. just run the cylinder pin back in then try to cock it . next i'd check the strut did you remember to take out the pin at the bottom of the hammer strut after you reinstalled the strut? is the
pawl spring correctly seated? can't be much more. maybe just break it down  and reassemble it again.

if you still have a problem, check your manual,and/or contact ruger .

Just as warrior1 stated.
Not sure, it's been some time since I had one apart but I seem to recall that one of the grip frame screws is a different length.
If I am wrong someone please correct me.
If I am right then make sure you put the right screw in the right hole.
The manual will tell you for sure.

Check that the strut was put in correctly..it is easy to put in in "reversed", causing the problem you mentioned.

Th grip frame screw only secures the hammer pivot. This plunger is something totally different.
