May not reload . . .

With my last trip to the range I was really happy with the way my Encore .223 was shooting.  Winchester Varmint Pack ammo (45gr./40 rounds per box/12.00 at Walmart) printed 1/2" and 3/8" groups at 100 yards.

I'm a reloader and enjoy it a great deal.  Have reloaded 44 mag, 40 S&W, 308 Win, 6mm Rem, and .222.  I had great plans to reload for my .223, but I'm trying to see the point.  The 12.00 a box thing is one reason, and the other is the grouping I'm getting.  Couldn't be happier.

Does anyone else out there have experience with this factory load shooting this good?  I have yet to try it out on game but assume it would be good for groundhogs and similar sized vermin.  I wonder how it would affect a coyote?

I would think it would be great for coyote. You can still reload for half that easy. But if your not going to shoot more than a couple hundred rounds a year or some thing I couldn't see reloading either.  KN

That same load for the 22-250 from Winchester has driven me to the same coclusion. I hadn't found a combination that shot as well as I hoped that Encore barrel could. I bought those 45 gr HP loads  and got similar results. So for now at least I have better things to do than trying to find a handload that barrel likes better. Like shooting.

BTW, this spring I shot a crow with that bullet. Absolutely devestating!!! The offside was completely blown out. Sean

I have heard about this ammo many times now. I think I will try a box this weekend. Has anyone put this round through a chrono? I would really like to know the velocity....

I chronographed this from my barrel at 3550 average the spread was about 40 ft./sec. It shot extremely well in my gun and I don't plan on reloading it either and it kills groundhogs at 200 yards instantly.

I bought a box of those from Wal-Mart yesterday 8-8-03. A friend and me sat down and did some shooting. My friend was very happy with his groups from his T/C 223 Encore. He shot a 5-shot group @ 100yds measuring approx
 .750"  and a 3-shot group @200yds measuring Approx 1.120"

I, on the other hand, was not so lucky. The best  I could get  with my 700bdl
was about 1 inch groups @100yds. This gun of mine will normally shoot 3/8 -
1/2 inch groups with handloads. It seems to prefer 40gr Nosler BT with 28gr
Win 748.  still not bad ammo for the money.

oh, by the way, my friend is off to wally world to stock up :)
