Finally sighted the 444
« on: October 10, 2008, 02:10:04 AM »
I finally got the time yesterday to sight in my 444. I set up a paper plate at about 100-110yds & fired 3 shots to foul the barrel. Using a sand bag as a rest, I fired the 1st aimed shot, which hit 3" high of center. The 2nd was 1/2" lower & a little to the left. I made the adjustments to the scope, the 3rd & 4th shots were touching & 2" directly left of center. I adjusted again & the 5th shot was 1/2" left of center. The final outcome was all 5 shots were on the paper plate & after 2 adjustments I had 3 shots within 2" of center.

I love this rifle, it has a good solid recoil that I like. I actually was expecting it to be a little harder, considering that I was using Hornady Lever Revelation 265gr.

Tomorrow, Primitive Weapons Season starts. There's an area on Ft. Polk WMA that's only for primitive weapons, so I hope that this weekend this little Handi can show me what it really can do.

congratulations on getting your rifle sighted in. I have never owned a .444 of any stripe, but it is known as an accurate cartridge. It does bump around on you a little bit when you touch one off, but they make an impression on game animals I hear.

Enjoy!

I went out Saturday afternoon for a hunt with the 444. Saw 1 doe about 80yds, but she went into a yaupon thicket & I never saw her again. If I'd have seen her a couple of seconds earlier I'd be having backstrap for supper.

Marv. If you were at Ft. Polk 56yrs ago I know why you never came back. It's a sh***y place to be now, I can only imagine how it was then.
