customer service
« on: October 09, 2008, 06:45:48 PM »
All of these complaints I see about Remington's customer service are really making me want to send mine in for another barrel.  Perhaps it's morbid curiosity, but I've just about talked myself into it.  The only problem I have is this:  What caliber barrel do I order?  I already have the .223, a .45-70 BC, and a .410 pardner.  I'm leaning towards .243, but I dont know anything .270 or .280.  I would also consider .308 if the general consensus is that it shoots really well.  Anyone and everyone should feel free to make a suggestion, but please include WHY you would make that choice.  Also - keep it civil - I don't want to see any cartridge bashing here.  They're all like snowflakes...beautiful in their own special way, but I digress.  Once I've made my decision, I'll send my precious handi away so that I can join the masses and praise/criticize Remington's service.

Peace!

The .308 in my opinion would be a great addition to what you already have.

It's accurate in the Handi, and it's probably one of the most versatile in loads and availability, and the recoil is a little less than say the O6 or 45-70.

With the various loads available you can hunt anything from coyotes to Elk with it.

I've got a .223, 7mm-08, and a .270, and the .308 will be my next!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

I think .270, 7-08,.280, .308, or.30-06 are all great choices, My .243 shot well but not what I felt it should. Its one of the few handies I've ever traded.  I think if I bought another .243 if would be the heavy barrelled model. I have been eyeballing a .308 and the 7-08 but I have mausers in .308 and .280 and with money so tight right now its hard to justify duplicates.

If you reload I think you should give the .280 a hard look, Flat shooting and a great bullet selection and all reports I remeber from handie owners seem very positive.

You surely have just overlooked the 30-30. ;D Please consider it , a fine cartridge, easy on the pocket book, low recoil and ammo is everywhere.    Doug

I have a Marlin lever gun, and its one of my favorites.  If I didnt already have one, .30-30 would be on the top of my list.  At this point, Im thinking .308 might be my best bet...
