If your .243 shoots well it can certainly cover the range a scope like that is good for. Higher power scopes like that also make it much easier to see your hits without useing a spotting scope.

Check out the light gathering capabilities at the higher ranges.  I had a Tasco 6X24 and anything above 12X got so dim you could not see anything.

Also, BSA isn't known for standing up to recoil.  I'd feel more comfortable with a Bushnell 3200 or something, cheap and reliable.

The three I would look at are:

1.  Bushnell Elite 3200
2.  Nikon Prostaff
3.  Leupold VXI

I have all three and the 3200 outshines them all.

I think your scope would be fine for that rifle.  I agree with Sourdough, higher power equals lower light. I have a few high power (X24) scopes, but I always keep them at the low end to yield more light and only increase power if I really need it.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

One thing I have to say for Handis get the longest eye relief you can find.  Other wise you will have to get extended rings to move the scope into range of your eye.  Especially if you wear a heavy coat when shooting.
