.41 Special ;looking at making a run
« on: October 08, 2008, 05:26:42 AM »
Folks,

We are looking at making a run of .41 Special brass and ammo. What I'm trying to do is find out how much interest is out there for it. Cost will depend on how much we do in one shot, but I'm looking at about 35.00-37.00 per box of 50 on loaded ammo with premium bullets (210g GDHP, 210g Nosler HP) Not sure on the cast loads yet. Brass would run about 25.00 per 100. Please let me know if you are interested.

Well, it is in progress and should be here in the next 6 weeks or so. Cost is going to be a bit more than I anticipated at 38.00 per 100, but still less than going with Quality Cartridge's brass. Which of course will push the cost of the ammo up some too, but I'll contain that as best I can.

I'm new here, but I'm interested in some of the 41 special loads and brass. If it's available please let me know how much and how to go about buying it.

The good news for all of us reloaders... and shooters... is that metal prices have dropped dramatically

Yes, but we have to wait about 6 months for the prices to really drop, metal prices and component prices run about 4-6 months out from each other. Just like buying fuel/oil/othe commodies on hedge.

I can understand items like casings and other components taking time to work through inventories for prices to match drops in materials, but why do the prices have to jump when the raw materials go up?

Another of life's little mysteries.

well,  so from an account's perspecive, material cost is going up so we have to increase the cost of current inventory to cover the increase cost to replace it. When costs of material goes down we can't decrease the cost until we have all the higher priced material out of inventory. Pretty much screw the customer, we get paid first.

Now, if you ever notice we often have some of the lowest prices around, know why? Because I stock up like crazy when I see prices going up and keep mine low, material goes up and I only raise what I have to to cover my end, and then when they come back up we re-stock like crazy. Sure, costs go up over time, but one of the nice things about this little recession is that our buying power is going up quickly so we'll be able to keep current cost or reduce some things fairly quickly. I rely on good customer service and quality to keep my volume high as well as keeping my overhead to a minimum.

I wasn't referring to you in particular.  More to the oil companies.  Most of the manufacturers I deal with have their inventories so lean these days they can be quite responsive to market costs.  And it truly reflects their nearly current material costs. I am sure you are in the same situation, or you wil have trouble staying in business.

The kicker with the oil folks is now they are selling gas made frm $150/barrel oil for $1.50.  With falling demand then some of the excess profits of the past are being consumed.

Sorry for the off topic LLoyd.

I'd be interested in a .45 Colt Gold Dot loading.
