I'm pretty sure that all the aftermarket barrel makers will do that. I'm sure that Dave Van Horn will. Most of these guys have a list of calibers they do on their webpage. Why would you want the Krag? It's not one of the more efficient calibers for the Contender carbine.

It isn't listed as a caliber choice on virgin valley, fox ridge, bullberry, for the contender.  I don't have any interest in reloading and I think it would be the  most efficent caliber for the contender with factory ammunition. I actually would prefer a 300 savage but keep reading that factory ammuniton is pushing the limit  with the contender,  it isn't offered as a choice either with any of the custom barrel makers.  I'll take a look at Van Horn, thanks.

Ben, I know that Bullberry used to chamber for the Krag, 'cause I have an older Bullbery carbine barrel originally chambered and so marked in that caliber.  It shoots very well.  I also have a 14" barrel that is a rechamber (whose I don't know) of a factory .30-30 and it shoots well, too.  Very capable on deer!  I'm certain that SSK rechambers and makes new barrels in .30-40 Krag.  Factory ammunition should do well in a carbine length barrel, and you'd have quite a bit more than a .30-30.  Efficiency isn't everything!

I see EABCO don't list the 30-40 for Contender(but do for the Encore). I'm thinking that if it were hand loaded to it's full potential, basically duplicate the 308win (efficiency?). It would be too hot for the contender. (liability problem)..onesonek

Graycg, you say a PM has been sent, but none has arrived.  Email me at <drf@rollanet.org> and I'll see it bright an early in the morning.

Ben look into the 7-30 Waters, it seems to be one of the best if not reloading.......

7x30 is on my list tko think about and so is a 35 remington,

I looked at the barrells at midway, I have a virgin vally barrell for my encore and like it.  350+ is more then what I want to put into this though.

the 300 savage is a good round in the contender, but only as a reload.

Factory ammo, i believe will exceed the limits of the contender frame and result in stretching.
