Wish List
« on: October 02, 2008, 01:44:45 PM »
I was looking at an old NEF catalog the other day and saw the Buffalo Hunter model in 45-70 and have shot it a bunch at shows when my friend was the H&R rep.  What I want to know is have they or will they make a long barreled 22LR version of the Buff hunter?  I go and cull rabbits off a friends farm and I think that would be a lot of fun to use as well as a great target /small game/ varmint rifle.

Once in a while stuff on a wishlist happens. Case in point, the Topper Deluxe. Even comes in 12 ga. and 20 ga. now.

What I want to know is have they or will they make a long barreled 22LR version of the Buff hunter?

If you mean the Buffalo Classic, no they don't offer a rimfire version, all of their firearms are listed on their website.

Thanks Tim,
But I was hoping that at some point in history they did make a long barreled 22lr with the williams target sights mounted on it.
You handi historians would know what models have been made
I also thought is enough others wanted one as well H&R may come out with it.

If it was, it was the old Wesson & Harrington prior to 1900, the original H&R made a lot of different models up until they went out of business in 1986, perhaps they did too, but no one has ever posted about it. The only thing they offer now is the Buffalo Classic in 45-70 and the carbine in 45 Colt. The 17M2, 22mag Ultra and Versa-pack 410/22 were discontinued this year, so it seems to me they aren't interested in adding any rimfires, but you can add your wish to the Wish List in the FAQs and Help sticky. :-\

I think it would be cool if they made a .22 LR version of the Buffalo Classic. I would buy it but I don't think there would be a big enough market for them to be profitable.

I'm actually in the process of making my own pseudo budget version of this with my .22 LR Sportster. I removed the factory rear sight and installed a Williams FP peep sight with target knobs. I picked up an old H&R straight grip butt stock from another forum member. I am in the process of refinishing this butt stock and a Schnabel forend in a walnut finish. I'll post pictures when I'm done.

It would be great in the range, lousy to chase bunnies with. Barrel length & alder thickets don't match up real good.

I live in CA and we have wide open fields to rabbit hunt in.
Think more mini antelope hunting than eastern rabbit.

Open range, eh. A long barrel would make sense in that case. Up here rabbit & grouse hunting(Varying Hare to be exact) is done in alder thickets and spruce pine forest, shorter guns make life easier.

I would take the Maritimes over Montreal.  I spent three weeks in Nova Scotia a couple years ago, and can't wait to go back.  Beautiful country and great people.  I hope to travel there again soon.

My mother's family wandered back and forth across the ST. John river above Houlton, Me. and Woodstock, New Brunswick for generations before moving to NH in the depression. I can ask for poutines up there and get them! Also too, I can talk avec les habitants and they comprenez me! The land that time forgot! A bientot! Guy
