I've been wanting a high capacity 9mm, and have been interested in the SR9 since it came out. Does anyone have experience with the SR9?
Do they pretty much have the bugs out of it yet? I like the fact that it is slimmer, I also like the adjustable rear sight. I'm also reading that the magazine disconnect can be easily removed. I've had my eye on the SR9 for sometime now, and I saw an OD green and black model the other day that I liked a lot.
This would be the first striker fired pistol I have ever owned.

Any comments would be appreciated....thanks.

Much as I like Rugers---I'd say get a Glock---you'll be much happier---the SR9 I handled was awefull---the trigger was horrible.

I was wondering about the trigger as well...I read they redesigned it....did you shoot an older one, or a newr one?

It was a pre-Glock style triggered one---can't imagine the retro fit would help much.

I read a good review on it over at gunblast.com. Since they had the recall the price on an SR9 has dropped bigtime. I've thought about buying one myself because they can be had for so little. I saw a few on gunbroker for less than $500 and some are less than $400 before shipping & everything else.

I have one of the very early ones and it went back for the recall. Just love it, I also have Glocks, Springfields, Tauruses and Smiths.
For the price the Ruger is the best buy and backing from the factory cannot ever be faulted.
It is not a target pistol nor are any of the others mentioned, groups are about the same with any load with some pistols shooting better than others.

Really like mine. One of the first post recall examples delivered.

Many/most of the trigger issues are the result of people dry firing the gun with the mag removed or not breaking the gun in fully. Dry firing with the mag out grinds the trigger mechanism and creates a gritty feeling trigger. This is because of the magazine disconnect. If you get one, try to get one that just arrived to the store to minimize the number of people that have handled it before you. This will hopefully net you a better trigger at delivery. After that, shoot it a good amount. My trigger gets better every time I take it out.

Bought one of the early models, shot great with no problems. 5-6 hundred rounds.

Has been fitted with the new trigger group, have shot about 200 rounds since with no problems.
Also , I like the new trigger better than the old one, a little harder maybe but much smoother.
I think with more use it will get better as did the old trigger.

For the cost and features of this gun IMO it is a good buy.
Love mine, wouldn't consider selling.

As has been said ....very good for the money. Just after Christmas , I was handgun hunting ...handled a SR-9 and a P345....priced at $409.00 and $429.00 respectively......this was all before tax and background check...I thought pretty fair pricing ( both NIB ) I ended up with the 345....my point , shop around, Rugers can be very good buys.

I've got an original SR9 that I bought in April of last year for $425 out the door. I absolutely love it! The grip is the slimmest available in a double stack mag and it shoots great! I had the gun store I bought mine from order it and picked it up the same day it came in so the trigger didn't have the gritty feeling that most complain about. With that said, I sent it back to Ruger for the recall and got it back in 7 days! I wouldn't trade or sell mine for anything. It handles better then my 1911 in my opinion.

I really like my 345 , so much in fact , it gets to go to the range more than my 1911. Not sure , why but the muzzle flip/recoil just isn't there. Some say its because of the poly frame flexing absorbing the recoil ?? I don't know nor do I care...I like mine. It seems to fit my hand well ...points well too. It shoots real well....haven't had the decent weather to bag it at 25 yards , everythings been off hand so far. But I've shot enough to know it gonna do well. If you've been thinking about one...ya can't go wrong !

Bought one yesterday...got home and fired it yesterday afternoon...Bam..fte. bam, ftf, bam, bam, jam..i'm

and then I clean it...same results...i'm still

, so I go into the house and cool off for a while and later go back out and clean it again with Hornady's dry lube (spray can) and it was at that point I realized...I'm limp wristing it!! I wac so consentrated on the poa that I didn't even realise I was not griping it tight enough.

I went out before church this morning and went through 17 rounds...no hang ups etc, etc. I dont limp wrist my other automatics and they shoot great. It's hard to beleive how they will hang up if you don't hold on tight....or i'm thinking that's what the trouble was anyway...your thoughts?

I really like the looks of the SR9, and it sits good in my hand (have not shot one but handled several while working in a local shop). for the money the sr9 is one of the top values. at 399 it is hard to beat. the sigma's at 360 are also a good value. i too dont like the glocks because they just dont fit my large hands. the ruger does. i must say though that if given the choice and money wasnt the primary concern i would pick up another xdm 9 instead. its about as good as it gets. plus 20 rounds aint bad either.

I've shot most every model of Glock and can get them for a great price and I'd spend more for a second SR9 or a long slide M&P before buying a Glock. The Glock ergos plain suck. Feels like a block of wood in my hand. Both the SR9 and M&P have some contour to the frame and fit to my hand instead of just something that I feel like I have to hang on to.

The one I bought last saturday is shooting great now...It was just tight and I also took it apart (so easy) and cleaned/lubricated it and now it don't miss a lick...sweet shooting gun with no hand sting/jolt (even with the +P.

I had set out to buy an SR9, but the cheapest I could find one here was $469. I ended up with a P95 for $330 instead. I am still hoping one day, I can get my hands on a SR9. I really liked the feel of it in my hands compared to other guns I have tried out.

As stated, I like mine so far (I bought the blued version) though I haven't gotten used to that looooong DA first-shot trigger pull yet

My pistol exhibits quite a bit of muzzle flip, and you can actually feel the slide working during recoil. The sights are very good, and the pistol comes back on target quickly, even during fairly rapid firing sessions

My particular gun seems to shoot rather low at twenty-ish yards, though I have only run 115 and 124 gr FMJs through it so far. I plan to try some heavier ordnance, and if that doesn't work, I'll give Ruger a call and see if they can't fix me up with some new sights

P.S. The best local price I've found on an SR9 (at least in the past year) is $420...though I have found them priced as high as $500 in some stores

Are we talking about the bare stainless model for pricing? The blackened slide models go for about $50 more---so could be why we're seeing so much variation in pricing.

Well...mine got to jamming again...took it back to the store and the gunsmith had the same thing happen to him. They gave me the black stainless (which I like better) they had in stock...brought it home and it only wants to shoot winchester..no remington ...no pmc...anyone else have that problem??

I like mine, it came out of the factory after the recall, so I did not have to send it in. I get around the trigger issue by allowing it to build up, then squeeze alittle more to get it to fire. My Ruger P-89 has a trigger pressure buildup to, but it is different.

It is basically a combat gun, comes up to firing position very easily, I do target shoot with it, but one can see that it was intended for a police officer.
