22 Hornet Twist
« on: October 01, 2008, 05:55:21 AM »
For those of you who have a NEF in 22 Hornet what bullets are you having success with?   Seems to me the 1-9 twist is a little fast for the true 22 hornet bullets.

I believe my 22 Hornet is a 1 - 12" twist. I would prefer it to be 1 -14" twist rate. I have not found a load it likes real well yet. It seems to shoot the light bullets; 35 grain as well as 50 grain bullets. I want to try some 1680 with 50 grain bullets, but have not yet. I just got the powder yesterday in the mail, but have some other projects I have been working on lately. I really can not tell you which one it likes best. I do know mine does not like a 40 grain V-Max at all. About the best I can do at 50 yards is 4", most of the time it is even bigger than that. I really want them to work and have tried them with several powders and primers. It became obvious, that they just were not going to work.

My Handi hornet is 1-12". It does very well with the 40 vmax and Lil'gun. It also likes the Speer TNT.
I haven't tried anything that wouldn't do 1.5 inches at 100 yards with a full case of Lil'gun.

The standard twist for the H&R 22 Hornet is 1:12", but it wouldn't surprise me that they switched to 1:9" when they switched the 223 barrels to 1:9 starting in 2006. They've subsequently discontinued the Hornet completely unless Remington has revived it. :-\
