45-70 Hornady LEVERevoloution ballistics
« on: September 30, 2008, 06:15:36 AM »
Looking at the ballistics chart on the Hornady website, it says 3" high at 100 yd, 0 at 150, and -4.1 at 200 yds.

Does that mean that I can sight in 0 at 100 yds, and it will shoot around -7.1 at 200 yds?

Most of my shots are under 100 yds, so I would rather it be closer to the reticle up close and I don't have a 200 yd range to test.

Thanks,
Kendall

That gives you an idea of what to expect, shoot it at 100yds and 200yds to find out what it actually does in your rifle, your scope mounting height, your rifle's chamber, bore and barrel length all have impact on trajectory.  ;)

if you change poi at 100 by 3 inches it will change about 6 inches at 200.  so more like 10 inches low at 200.  But again just ballpark guess, only shooting will tell for sure where your set up will hit at.

Are wee talking Handi or BC barrel?  The extra length in the BC makes the ballistics on that questionable, they probably tested in a Levergun with a 24" barrel.
