38-55 chamber length
« on: September 25, 2008, 07:42:11 AM »
Hi, ya'll. New to the forum and have a question. I picked up a Target rifle last year. Started out with Starline 2.080 brass, 246 gn cast bullets and a load of 5744. So far so good. But when I seated the bullet out far enough to be .030 off the lands, a fair chunk of the bullet was outside the case. No big deal. All the grease grooves are covered, barely. Now I see Starline has 38-55 brass 2.125 long. Has anyone done a chamber cast on theirs or know what the chamber lenght is on the Handi?

Welcome! Use the search feature, there are literally hundreds of posts on the 38-55, Starline long brass works fine in mine and several other Marlin made (2007) made barrels, but that may not hold true for all of them, so a chamber cast would be wise before buying the brass. ;)

Thanks, Tim. I worked on the search for a while but wasn't finding what I was lookin for. Depending on how you word it, you might get 5 hits or you might get 500! Lots of other good stuff in the searches, though! I need some cerosafe anyways. No tellin where it is. Been 10 years since I've done a chamber cast.
