527 carbine and bolt polishing?
« on: September 24, 2008, 06:58:13 PM »
I have read on other websites about using Flitz, JB Bore Paste, Ultra Bright toothpaste, etc for polishing the action on these rifles.

I JUST bought one, today even.  Man, I am excited with this rifle.  I did notice that the bolt is stiff to close, possibly from when the bolt head passes the ejector.  I am not familiar with the rifle yet.

Has anyone polished their's?  (not secondhand knowledge please)

Gunnut and JohnTraveler told me years ago to use MolyD auto grease to burnish the bolt on a Remington.  So my fall back position will be what I have used before.

Just wondering what others have done.

Just got a nice CZ 527 myself. I thought you might like to know what is shooting well in my hornet.  I did post my loads but I found that using 40gr sierra hornet bullet and lil'gun powder with a cci small pistol primer gave outstanding results. It would shoot one hole groups off the sandbags at 100yds.  I did try 45gr hornaday bullets and 50gr sierra bullets. Neither shot nearly as well as the 40gr slugs. I thought this may get you started in the right direction with your reloading.  Another CZ527 shooter in a post on this websight said his rifle did best with 40gr bullets to. I have not tried anything lighter because the sierra 40gr bullet made for the hornet shoots so good.  Let us know what your gun likes.  By the way my rifle is completely stock. I have not had to do anything to it. It works well right out of the box.

Congrats on the CZ.  I think that the handling is fantastic on this rifle.  I am going to the range tomorrow if all goes well.

I plan on breaking it down from the stock to clean it first.  It has quite a bit of oil on it so I am thinking that a good cleaning is in order.

Mine is 7.62x39 though.  I have some 123 VMAX loads made up.  Going to try some Barnaul SP's and good old Wolf in it too.

I used JB Bore paste on my 550 with good results.  It's now the slickest action I own.  Just be sure not to turn the bolt handle down each time you cycle the action while the paste is in there.  You don't want to lap any excess headspace tolerance into the bolt lugs.  A couple hundred cycles of the bolt will start making a difference.
