I know that most people like one make over the others.I myself like S&W revolvers better than anyother.Reasons being.Better built,trigger pull-let off,accuracy, and they seem to handle and balance better for me, mostly the N frames with 6" and longer barrels.I own and like Colts and Rugers too, but the only other gun that comes close to the S&W in my book is the Dan Wesson revolvers.---So, what's you alls favorite revolvers.--Willy

Lots of S&W "N" frames but I also like and own Colt New Service revolvers, they can be real treasures also Officer's Model and Army Specials both "I" frames like the Python but much older.

Favorite double action would be my Anaconda in 44mag. Smoothest action I ever got right out of the box. Accurate, well ballanced, just fits. KN

I own mostly S&W, but lately I've been warming to Rugers. Much stronger that the Smiths and not nearly as fragile.

Ruger hands down. I never had a S&W big bore that didn't get sloppy or go out of time. I like Taurus second best. IF they change the thin grip the decision would be tough. It just takes a little tweaking and the Ruger is a smooth as a Smith and last forever.

I currently own three Smiths, Mdls 19/29/36. Doubt that I'll buy another since they have not made an effort to reverse the "sell out" of the previous ownership. Haven't owned a Taurus yet, but I think I can get by just fine with the Ruger and Taurus offerings.

For large frame revolvers the question might better be phrased as when was it made, rather than who built it.

The finest workmanship is to be found in target revolvers produced in the decade prior to WWI: Triple Locks and New Service Targets all were produced to very high standards. Webley WG's too, starting with the '94 model, are superb revolvers.

New Service Targets, Shooting Masters, 38/44 outdoorsman and 357 Magnums made during the depression years were indeed very carefully fit up, but the time to produce the magnificant external finish seen prior to WWI was not taken.

Today, only Korth makes a revolver approaching the standard of workmanship seen in these old revolvers.
