What is it worth?
« on: September 15, 2008, 05:25:40 PM »
I have an old friend that has a Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 magnum that he is wanting to sell.   The gun is in almost new condition and been shot probably less than one box of ammo thru it.   What is a fair price to give this gentleman for it?

Thanks for the advice!

Sounds about right.
Maybe $50.00 more in super nice shape.

It depends on how old.  If it's a 3 screw, it's worth more.  Great gun buy the way.  I bought my first one in 1978.

Need more info on it for a fair assessment.  OM or NM?  If an OM what configuration is it?  What grips> correct box, etc?  If a NM, is it stainles or blued? Box, etc?

Thanks for the responses so far.   I forgot to give details.  It is blued and has a six inch barrel.   Adjustable rear sight.   Also the OE walnut grips.   No nicks or scratches anywhere on it.   The box is the old Red box and serial number on box match the pistol.

Thanks again!

The bbl wouldn't be an even inch measurement.  Could be 6 1/2" and if so you just might have yourself something a bit more than you think.  Does the box indicate a model number (to confirm the bbl length as shipped) ?  Serial number range is _______?

sounds like you have an old model. Look to see if it has three screws on the side plate. If it does its an old model. Prices on them varys alot. Ive seen shooters go for 500 and excellent ones up to a grand. Flat tops start at about a grand anymore.

It is possible a 6 1/2" barrel.  Do not have it in my possession yet.   It is not a three screw or the original flattop model.

I may be mistaken but i thing the only 6.5 inch supers were the new aniversary gun. Those would have the gold lettering on the barrel. All of the new models were 7.5 with the exception of the bisley accusprort which was a bisley and stainless and the 4 5/8s supers. They also made a small run of 5.5 inch supers with the round trigger guards like the 4 5/8s but none other then the aniversary in 6.5

The first Ruger .44 Magnums had a 6 1/2" barrel.

I would like to say Thank You to each of you for your input and comments.   I now have the New Model in my posession.  It is a 7.5" model.  The gentleman that had it must have really taken a shine to me.  Today he drove about 100 miles to bring me a bunch of brass for 38 Special, 357 Mag. 44 Special and 44 Magnum.   Since I had helped him numerous times this summer, he just gave me the pistol.   I was shocked but am very pleased to have it in my home.  He also gave me a bill of sale saying paid in full and dated and signed.   I do feel fortunate to have been blessed another time in my life!

Not sure when it was made but the serial number is 82-31XXX

Maybe someone can tell me the year it was made.

Thanks again to a wonderful bunch of shooters!

You can go directly to the Ruger site, enter your model and serial number, and get the date of manufacture.
