Sorry GB.
At least I cleaned it up after I typed it!
We will just have to find another way to help him.

There are plenty of other ways open. If someone wants to donate an item they can just sell it here then donate the proceeds. That's legal and workable. We've had lots of requests for raffles for perfectly good causes but because of state law here we just don't feel comfortable taking the chance that legal action would not result against us if we allowed it.

Thanks GB.  I didn't know it might cause you legal complications.  I won't sell the barrel outright because one person is unlikely to offer up what a raffle might bring in.  I was hoping to turn that barrel into $1000 for Bob.

In any case, anyone that wishes to donate to Bob's cause regardless of the raffle can paypal me and I'll get it to him.

My paypal address is memoraxe@gmail.com

Please include your screen name, real name and address in the comment section so I can send out some thank you cards. Bob will also want to know who gave him a helping hand for his own thank-yous.  If you don't have a paypal account and wish to send a check, PM me for my home snail mail address.

Thanks for all the willingness to help a fellow hunter in need.  GBO is a true community that is willing to take care of their own.

Ian

P.S.  Bob came through the surgery with flying colors this afternoon and barring post op complications, they say he might take his first steps in a couple days.  Apparently they want him up and moving fast.

Yup raffles can bring in a lot of money some times. I wish it was an option we could offer for such worthy causes but with them being illegal in our home state it's just a mess we're not willing to tangle with. Even after Matt's house fire we wouldn't allow it but did allow folks to do an auction here to help and would be happy to bend the rules again to do that to help as that's not illegal here.

Hey GB we understand.
Maybe the kindness will show through and we will be able to send him more in the long run.

Would have liked to have had a crack at that 375 though!

Paypals received.  Many thanks for your generosity.

I passed a card around work today and collected $193 from the folk there.  I spent way too much time walking around collecting and not enough time working... LOL  You shoulda read some of the comments.. "that's a tree stand, not an ejection seat" "A real Navy man woulda load checked that ladder" "buy short term disability you dumb***" They had a lot of fun with it and all was written in good humor.  I can't give him the card until he can laugh without needing morphine.  They gutted him from his sternum to his ....uhm.... "beltline" looking for internal bleeding and making sure he hadn't ruptured anything so laughing or coughing is an extremely unpleasant experience.   Tomorrow I am getting on the company intranet and sending an email to everyone up at the other site.  Only a few know Bob up there but you don't get what you don't ask for and it doesn't hurt to ask.

I talked to him today when he called the supervisor to see what he needed to do to take a leave of absence.  He sounded none too good so I put off visiting him tonight.  I'll go Thursday and should have an update for you guys then.

I went to see him last night and I'm happy to report that there's a different man in the bed now.   His color was back, he could talk without grimacing and gasping and they had him out of bed yesterday morning for his first couple baby steps.  They've got him on something that stops the coughing fits so that isn't wearing him out.  Instead of being flat on his back, the bed was up at 45deg and he was watching TV when we walked in.

All in all, a drastic turnaround from the last time I saw him a few days ago.  He said when they do discharge him (whenever that is) that they are probably going to have him at Cardinal Hill, which is an inpatient Physical Therapy place for a couple weeks before he goes home.  He's still got a long road ahead of him but it looks like fresh pavement compared to the beaten out logging road it was before.

Talked to Bob a few minutes ago and they're discharging him tomorrow at 2pm.  He will be going directly over to Cardinal Hill to begin his PT.  They might have internet access there and if so, he said he will log on and let you know how it's going.  He might even entertain you with all the grisly details.  ;D

Does he have any pretty nurses? That was always the best part of ending up in the hospital. I really liked it when they used to dress in white uniforms, but it seems that was many years ago....<><.... ;)

Well it looks like they're going to keep him for another week.  Not for his back or his pelvis, but for the incision they made in his abdomen.  When they took the stitches out a couple days ago, about 6" of the incision broke open and they've had him held together with duct tape and bailing wire since.  It's a great place to get an infection so they're postponing his release till that is better.

Troy, I got your check in the mail today.  Much thanks.  Bob says that between you guys and the donations at work, he may be able to avoid sleeping under bridges for a few more months.

You tell Bob that it's ok to sleep under the bridge as long as he doesn't have to sale any of his guns.
That would be a terrible thing cause I am just about tapped out right now with all the stuff I have bought here on GBO lately.

Howdy Friends

First off I put alot of stock into freindship and I can say that the group here at GBs is a great bunch of freinds.

What you guys have provided is much more than some monetary aid, Just knowing some people trully care makes a bitter pill easier to swallow.

As for me and my little mishap, I didn't exaclly fall out of the stand. It's a stand built into the tree, I was starting to climb down out of it and one of the ladder rungs pulled free (I shouda checked the mounting hardwre, Hindsight 20/20 as always) I fell about 25 feet and landed on my right hip and lower back, You might say it hurt somewhat ::),  Any way my recover I feelis just amazing. I don't have any braces or cast, Just a binder to help where they sliced me open and the glue didn't hold. I just got access to a computer or I would have responded sooner, I only use a walker now to get around and can walk pretty well  but get tired kinda fast I get up and down myself and change my own dressings.

I think it will be several weeks before I can go to work but I should be leaving the rehab hospital I am in and going home on the 30th, I thank God that my recovery is going so well from such bad injuries, And for all my friends who are lending a hand.

Extra thanks to you guys here, we've talked alot here and have had some good laughs but we've never really met, But to reachout thru the cyber world and lend a hand really gives me a warm and fuzzy fealling.

    Thanks everybody.

I really don't like the idea of attaching rungs directly to the tree because it will kill it. Although the damage to the tree has been done and will likely die anyways. I would ( as a carpenter ) suggest you redo all the rungs ( with 2x4's )and this time use 3/8" x 5" lag bolts. You will never have this problem again. Just use 2 lags per rung and you should be fine. I would also use treated wood so you will not have to worry about it rotting in a couple years. If you do what I say you could not pull one of those rungs out with a crowbar. The wood will fail first. I am happy to hear your recovery is going well and wish you and yours the best. Dale
