Drill and Tap, downsides?
« on: September 11, 2008, 07:34:45 AM »
What are the downsides to drilling and tapping a NM Blackhawk. Can it weaken the frame? I'm talking 41mag, 44mag.

It can be done without worries so long as it's done properly.  I've had my .41 mg BH drilled & tapped with optics for years. Some will go off on the "value" thing and well, yeah it may detract from it's value but then again, it's a common variant New Model so there's no collector value there anyways.  I always figured if I'm worried about collector value, just don't shoot the darn thing to begin with.

Maybe it hurts the value a little but that doesn't matter unless you plan to sell. I'm not selling mine so all it means was I paid a little less than I would have otherwise. Sort of like getting the scope and mount free. Both of these were bought at decent prices because they had a small hole in the topstrap. I'm very happy! Plus I can see clearly and hit what I'm aiming at, even with "old eyes".
