Holster help!
« on: August 01, 2003, 11:08:35 AM »
Probably the finest holster I own is for my .357 Blackhawk. I had it made by S.D. Meyers about 8 or so years ago. I know the company was in El Paso origanaly , but for some reason I think they were in Maine when I got  this holster. Anyone have a contact for them? I have googled them and searched but cannot find if they are still around. any help is greatly appreciated.

S D Myers was always in El Paso.  I toured the shop in 1968 and had them build me a number of holsters and rigs over the next number of years.  Junior closed down the shop when his age and health became issues.  That was in the mid to late 70's.  All of his staff were hired by Bob McNellis when he was gearing the El Paso Saddlery Company back up.  If you bought that holster after about 1980 or so, it came from its first or second owner, not directly from S D Myers.

P S - El Paso still can make virtually all of the Myers style rigs and more.  They still use some of the heaviest best quality leather available and the handwork is art.  They are on the net, but get a catalog to show many more styles than those online.

First, thanks for the response. . As I said, I love my "S.D.Myres El Paso" holster. It fits my .357 Blackhawk like a glove, and is stiff enough to release and reholster easily. My experience with El Paso Saddlery was not great. When I finally found .45 Bisley Blackhawk 5.5 inch to buy I started looking for leather. I wanted the same as the .357, a thumb break, high ride pancake type. Loking for that for a single action is a job. I found El Paso Saddlery, contacted them and special ordered the holster. The first they sent me was for a standard BH instead of a Bisley. Thumbbreak wouldnt reach due to the hammer. also, adj front sight came out the toe and caught on the end of the holster. Second one, dont know. It was so tight it would push the ejector rod back, the front sight tore up the inside, and the sight still caught. And I only put the gun in and out once to test fit. Third times the charm. This one came in and fit and function was good. That being said, I'd still get an S.D Myers if I could. I got the holster 1993 or 94. The gentleman running the show at that time I believe was named Dave. Heavy New England accent, might be why I was thinking Maine.
Anyway, thanks for the info
