First Handi-rifle
« on: September 05, 2008, 02:40:14 PM »
I've been coming on this NEF forum for about 2 weeks and you guys have made me a believer! Went out and bought a .22 magnum SS today. First impressions are; trigger definately not smooth but not that bad, overall finish and quality pretty good too, in fact I kind of like this little guy and think it will make a great "walkin around" rifle. Couple things bother me though and maybe some of you have solutions. First, what the hell is going on with this hammer? When I fire the hammer kicks over and completely obliterates the sights. Is this normal? If so, can I cut it down and add a "hammer spur"?  Also, I hate the front sight (too big) would prefer a fine gold bead on post. Can Williams front sights be installed using the existing screw hole or any other manufacturers ? And last , I think  I would prefer a wood stock, are any available ? Haven't shot it yet ,but maybe this weekend. Is it worth sending in for .22LR barrel or would I be better off just buying another rifle (kind of subjective )? Anyways, appreciate any advice you guys have. Thanks a lot.

One more thing, is dry firing bad for this rifle? Thanks again.

If you read the owner's manual, you should have noticed the warning against dry firing. If you wish to dry fire, use a snap cap or spent case in the chamber. ;)

NOTICE: This firearm should
never be dry fired, as damage
could occur to the barrel and/or firing pin.

Bought a 17 HMR and sent it in to have the 22 Mag and 22 LR bbls added.  Now wish I had just bought two more rifles.  Be a lot easier to switch between rounds.
