I have reached the conclusion that the problem may not necessarily be with Ilion.  Sure they recently moved and things are slow, folks are being trained, etc.  But the heart of the problem begins with Customer Service.  I received this on Monday (9/8):

"we still have it and to be honest I do not know why at this point but I am going to find out for you.
I will find out today!

Thank you,
Pete "

Today is Wednesday (9/10) and I have yet to hear back from this guy.  I sent him two emails since then with no response.  If this is typical Remington Customer Service, I don't understand how they have thrived for so many years.   ???

Oh well,,,,,,,

Well, I finally got an answer back today (9/10)from CS:

"I sent them a message to ship this out and it is now in packing and should be shipped in a couple of days.
Thank you for your patience.
Pete"

BUT,

I had also received this message from the same guy in CS on 8/20:

"The receiver should be back to you shortly John. It was sent a few days later.
Thank you,
Pete"

I believed him on 8/20 and that was a mistake.  (The few days later that he mentions was in reference to the personal check that I had sent to them for the accessory barrel.  I did get that back a few days after I cancelled the barrel order.)  I did reply to him and asked him for contact information for a manager/supervisor so that I could express my thoughts on this whole mess and also asked for him to provide some sort of a tracking number for the receiver.  I haven't heard back from him yet.

Oh well.....

It sounds like you've just been assigned a bad CS rep... there is one at every company.  I would keep trying the 800 number until I got ahold of someone different, then try that.  In some of my dealings w/ suppliers, I keep a list of the CS reps I don't like.  If I get one, I hang up and try for another... that usually produces results...

I had a similiar experience dealing with five or six different people there. Its currently taking them a long time to decide what stocks to send me to replace mine.  Every two days I get an e-mail about some detail, I've sent pictures and said all I want is wood with a pistol grip.

Well, it finally has happened!  My receiver was shipped on 9/10.  I got a UPS tracking number today from CS and it's on it's way.   :)  It's scheduled for delivery on 9/19.

I originally shipped it to Ilion on 7/23 to get an accessory barrel.  When I read of all the problems with the move, I cancelled the order on 8/14.  So if I got this figured right, by the time I get the receiver back it will only have taken 8 weeks for my order to be processed.........and they didn't do a thing for me.     ???

This is my first ever dealing with Remington.  If this is any indication of what their customer service is like then it will most certainly be my last.  I can understand problems with the move, new personnel, etc.  But, their Customer Service , at least in this situation, was just plain useless.  Don't get me wrong, I like the H&R product.  I own an Ultra in 243 and also a Handi in 444 Marlin.  But, I don't think that I'll ever try the accessory barrel program again unless they go to a system like TC where barrels are fully interchangeable.  If I have problems with a gun, it will go to a local smith.   ;)

Oh well......

If I were Remington, I'd just drop the accessory barrel program.  They don't make any money at it.

Glad it finally came full circle!

Move or no move that's just not the way to do business, and having to pick and choose CS reps is ludicrous.

Each employee in that dept is a representative of Remington, and they're word should be taken as that of the company they represent.

It's not your fault they are in the process of moving, since they accepted your order first and foremost, and it should be honored in a timely manner.

I wouldn't say never again, because I'm sure they won't be getting much business if they continue to make these errors, and if they stop the program then so be it!

Bottom line, it's your hard earned money you are spending, and you should get what service they say they will provide, period!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Might as well drop the entire Handi-Rifle line then since the ability to add barrels is a large attraction to the product.  Do you have any proof that they don't make money off the program or is that pure speculation?

I got my receiver back from Ilion yesterday.   ;D

There was a note in the box saying that my trigger did not meet factory spec, that it was below 3 1/2 pounds.  Luckily I had cancelled the accessory barrel and told them not to do any work on the receiver.  I'm not sure if they would have reworked the trigger if I hadn't cancelled the order.

Anyway, I'm a happy camper now and do not plan on using the accessory barrel program again.   :)

"Might as well drop the entire Handi-Rifle line"

Could happen!  I doubt they make any money at it.

Handi's a nd Pardner's kept H&R in business for quite a while there Swampman, I think its a little silly to claim it doesn't make money.

How many times did they go bankrupt?

Once, in 1986.  Then bought out in 2000 by Marlin.  Major corporations don't buy smaller business because they DON'T want to make money. They buy them to add their products to their line because they believe they are profitable.

Yeah, ask John Deere about that one! They will buy just about anything they think will add to their profit base. Even competitive products.
Seems to be working for them.
