I've got my Herters 401 repaired.
Thank You 44 Man for the info in using the Uberti bolt in my Herters. May not work for everyone but, it worked for me. I put two rounds thur it and have dry fired it numerous times and it locks everytime.

I'm glad it worked for you AAAJohn.  Most of these single action revolvers are fairly simple inside and easy to understand once you have the nerve to open them up.  Timing is the whole issue beyond that.  I'm glad your gun functions fine with the new bolt.  I have criss-crossed many parts over the years when I needed something, usually successfuly.  Sometimes you need to adjust a part a little to get everything working but it can usually be done with a little tinkering.  I believe the Herters were built by Sauer in germany, the same people who built the Hawes and Hy Hunter.  Most of those parts were pretty standard except some of the triggers had different size pivot holes than the rest of the industry.  I don't remember if they came just before or after the Ruger Super Blackhawk, but you can see the simularity.  Enjoy that gun!  44 Man

I am glad to see someone shooting a .401, knew I could not be the only nut around.AAAJOHN do you make your brass or do you buy it?. I just loaded 90 rds yesterday for mine. It was a pain lubing the bellets , but i have not got a .403 sizer die and these drop from the mold at .4035.good luck with it.
It is fun being the only one at the range shooting a 401

Neal, I've haven't reloaded for it yet. Still looking for a set of 401 powermag dies. The last set I saw on ebay went for 90 bucks, so I'm still waiting. I found a place where they reload with 41 mag brass and they have box of 50 for 30.00 plus 10.00 shipping. I'll probably go ahead and order some from them, if they are hunting loads. When I got the gun I bought a box of 20 for 25.00 at the gun show.
Real happy with mine, I was expecting more jump when I shot it, but was surprised. Seems like it jumps like most 357 Smiths I've shot. I guess the weight just holds it down. Glad you like shooting yours..........
