Hahaha......did I tell you fellas I used to be a noodler? That's how I got the 70 pounder, didn't catch it on rod-n-reel.
I also got flatheads that weighed in the 50's and 60's in my noodling days.
I did take a picture of the one that was in the 70's, but the roll got exposed and ruined. I had two fellas in the boat with me when I caught it, and I weighed it on some cotton scales at a little antique store that was in the town of Foyil back then.....was around 14 years ago. The folks that had the store are still in Foyil, Finis and Louise Ward, Louise owned the antique store. I don't remember who else saw the fish. They were some locals from the filling station across the street.
The fish had been out of the water for a couple of hours when I weighed it, and it was just a bit over 70 pounds. There were some fellas across the street at the local filling station that came over to see the fish....I had a couple of others as well that were in the 30-40 pound range. Before we weighed it they were askin me how much it would go.....I thought it might go 60 something, and they thought it was bigger.....before they were through guessing they had it up to 90 pounds.
When we were leaving I told my friend Bob Rogers, who, along with his son Trent, they both live up north of Chelsea, Bulletmaker, were the ones with me, that we shouldn't have weighed it. Ole Bob asked me why not, and I said that those local boys would have it up to 100 pounds by now and we would be legends.
Bob's son Trent kept the head in his freezer for several years to show to his buddies......that head was huge.
I do have pics of a couple of good flatheads that I could show ya Bulletmaker, and when ya come to the house I'll be happy to do that. One was 59 pounds and the other was 63 pounds.
I do have some pictures posted on a site called the Catfish Message Board. I post as John on there and the pics are on the pics page. These are flatheads that are from my spring limblines. I catch flats in the 40-50 pound range about every spring on my limblines.
My goal is to catch a 50 pound blue on rod and reel.....so far that hasn't happened.
