Try this, put Bic lighter in sink and run water over it for a minute.  Then start fire.  ;) 
 
Take magnesium firestarter and run in water in sink for as long as you want and scrape knife along striker.  ;)
 
You will see quickly why Bic is only as good as it's water seal and if your life depends on it, you'll see why it's not a good bet.
 
Not saying it isn't convenient.  I have a few stashed in my bags, but my money goes on my magnesium bar starter.  ;)

Duct tape burns good and is it's own water proofing.

I've accidentally run many, many Bic lighters through an entire cycle in the washing machine. Let 'em dry out for less than a minute and they're ready to go.

I have seen a bunch of good ones listed. Not sure if these have been covered.

I take press board. (the kind made from saw dust) and soak them in melted wax. Cut them up in squares, and keep them scattered about. Shave a little off, and it will light easily.

Hand sanitizer, will take a spark.

also, keep your old pieces of Never Dull. These take a spark as well.

A handy one I learned not too long ago . . .

take a ball of dryer lint and wrap it up in duct tape.  Make the 'package' about an inch or two in size, shaped sort of like a pillow.  When you're ready to start your fire, slit the duct tape and pull some of the dryer lint thru the opening to expose the fluff.  It will catch a spark from a ferro rod or a flame from a match or lighter and burn for a while.

An empty Skoal can makes a very durable waterproof container for tinder, and matches. A Copenhagen can while not as waterproof is wax soaked cardboard, stuff it with lint and you have the prepacked tinder and a wax based starter included. They are sized perfectly to fit in a fellas pocket, and have a wonderful minty smell.

Fill an egg carton full of dryer lint.  Pour paraffin over the lint.  Break off a few of the egg holders. Carry them in a  baggie.  Instant fire.

One thing that has changed over the years is "strike anywhere" kitchen matches. The new ones don't even like to light on the striker material on the match box (and I am not talking about Safety matches). I used to carry some matches in a nice waterproof match case, but no more. They are simply not reliable. I wish I would have known. Could have saved a few boxes and had a life time supply. Diamond match, I believe makes them all including anything saying Ohio. JUNK.

Go to Cabella's and find the area where all of the camping/backpacking gizmos are.    Somewhere in that area will be boxes of strike anywhere matches.    They work, just like the old timey ones.    Not expensive either.

I went to Cabella's and they had the matches that you mentioned in a "ten pack". bought 4 ten packs. when I leave the HOUSE I carry a zippo, two or three small bics PLUS a magnesium stick with a small broken piece of hacksaw and a Chinese pocket knife. on my belt I have a gerber multitool and a buck folder. I put a bunch of matches (from Cabellas) in a small water proof pill bottle along with everything else. My girlfriend laughs and asks if that is why I wear shorts that have so many pockets. Hmmm--if I sound a little paranoid, weeelllll maybe I am. But I have been cold and hungry before so I try to prevent that. Having been a Boy Scout I had learned to be prepared. Also I carry a couple of 18oz. bottles of Peanut Butter/Honey mix in the car (I'm a diabetic-for sugar regulation)and always have a five gallon bucket w/tight lid full of water in my vehicle. Now the vehicle is a van so it's not in the way. Yaaa, people laugh-----let them. ::) ;D 8) God Bless to all and theirs.

ETA: the CHINESE KNIFE is good for scraping the Magnesium bar and flint insert. you don't dull a good knife. It only cost $3.00 so is expendable.  Goofy.

Best I have found and if you have a hurt hand or arm you can still use it one handed. I filled mine with fluid and it is still good 6mo. later. I did change the o ring when I got it. they are cheap. Its called a permanate match and cost about 3.00 dollars. you can soak them in water for a week and does not effect them.
I ordered about 10 of them and have them on everything. key chains, back pack zippers etc.

Briarpatch, my daughter bought me one of these and they are GREAT.   The fluid never dries out.   I love a Zippo, but they dry out faster than you can refill them.

I keep mine permanently in my backpack.
