Vaquero sights
« on: August 23, 2008, 10:24:35 AM »
I have aquired a Vaquero due to a death in the family a few years ago. I never was really much for SA revolvers or .45 colt. I was in my gun safe this morning and decided to take it out and see what the "hoopla" was all about with these firearms (and the Blackhawk too...I an assuming they are similar guns). They both seem very popular. Well, it's a nice gun and I think I might take it to the range for a little session. But, the front blade is so tall that I feel like I'm aiming at the ground when I align the top of the blade with the fixed rear. Is this normal?

Also, I thought I might take this gun along for a close shot at a deer if the situation arises but the sights may be hard to see at other than optimal light. Any other options?

Thank you!!

leave the sights alone till you have finalized what load your going to use. they are made tall to give you the ability to file them to get the proper elevation for your load and there also tall because alot of guys shoot mild ammo that tends to have a point of aim that very high in comparison to heavy loads. You also have to take into consideration looking at the sight that its not sitting on a sight base like a DA gun would so they just look higher.

BRL,  If you can, send it back to Ruger. Tell them you want it sighted for _ ? yards. You will get it back dead on.

Hmm, never thought of that. Good idea, I'd have to figure out a load I'd be shooting regularly though wouldn't I?

Yep!!! I have 2 loads with a 225 gr. SWC and a 250 gr. SWC . Both are cast bullets. I really don't need any other loads.  R Jones
