Ruger Stainless Bisley
« on: August 15, 2008, 06:24:15 PM »
What type of production numbers did Ruger have for its' Stainless Model of the Bisley - Super Blackhawk?  Are they still readily available on the used gun market?  Did the stainless guns have any issues concerning their frame strength in the larger calibers?   Thanks, JHT

Certainly no problems with the frame strength.

JHT, once you decide to get an accusport, if you see one grab it. they seem to disappear
quickly. they are a run of revolvers by ruger sold to accusport, and that is why it is not
listed in their catalogue. i blew a deal on one in january, then it took till may to find one.

i lucked out, i was at a local dealers store, he had one in the counter. i did not hestitate this time ,even though i did not have enough cash with me i was able to lay it away.
in talking with a salesperson,he told me they go out just as fast as they come in,and his distributor cuts no deals on this particular item.

randy's hunting center in bad axe , mi had a couple last week at the gunshow a 45colt/acp
and a 41 mag. good shootin dan

Since not all were SBHs as marked, I'm thinking you're wanting the .44 mag one as it's marked as being a SBH.  These are one of the more rarely seen chambering along with the .41 mag model.  The .45 cal and .357 models are still pretty easily found but prices are creeping up on these as well.   Haven't seen a .44 mag one new or used for sale for quite a while now.  At least 1000 of each were made with the .45 cal model having multiple runs to bring production numbers to the 1200+ count.
Got at least one of each of these - 7 total - and they are fabulous revovlers.  The lone shooter of mine, a .45 Colt one is by far my favorite and I've still yet to wring out a preferred load yet.   Keep lookin on GunBroker and get word out via the forums what one you want.

I'm no expert, but I believe he only stainless bisleys were the "Acusport" limited runs.  I got one out of the last run they did, which were 45LC/45ACP convertibles.  One of my favorite revolvers.  It has the tightest lock up of any Ruger revolver I've ever owned.  I put a Power Custom Half-cock hammer and trigger in mine, added a Bowen Rough Country Rear sight, Belt Mountain #5 Base pin, and custom grips.

As far as non-hunter and non-single models go, yes they're Acusport models with a very small of .41 models made as basically spare parts that I believe went to CDNN.     These were the last ones made.   Stainless SBH Hunters have been made in 41 mag, 44 mag and 45 Colt and a fixed sight stainless Single Six was made as well.
There were actually two runs of the .45 convertables made.  The initial run had standard grips and the bbl warning on the side of the bbl.  The later runs had the laminate grips and under-bbl warning.

I just got one of the latest runs in 45/45acp (warning under barrel).  It's the gun Ruger should catalog.  They are the right barrel length, balance well, and in SS it will stand some neglect on those days when you get back to camp and just don't feel like cleaning a gun.  I also really like the grips and although I tend to put customs on most my guns I may let these ride a little.  As to your question of strength, you don't need to push the .45 hard to get results...An RCBS 285gr 270 SAA at about 1050fps will solve a lot of problems.

I looked at a .41 mag Bisley yesterday that looks about like the one mrbumbps posted. It had an engraved cylinder, but I did not look at it closlely because it is a .41. Maybe I should take another look?

If it is a special run revolver, how should it be marked? About when were they made and what would be a reasonable price?

Thanks,

Autorim

If it's a stainless single action Ruger in .41 mag it's a special run.  It's that easy.  The Acusport models will be stainless, have 5 1/2" bbls and the typical engraving on the standard Bisley cylinders.
