Hi I decided to rejoin the GB Family
« on: August 05, 2008, 07:43:55 PM »
;DI have been away for sometime and decided to rejoin this fine group of people. I sold all my guns but have made my mind up to rebuild my battery. I tried to go back to golf but my rt knee is toasted and I simply can not do it nymore. june 09 I'll get my new improved right knee. (knee replacement). I found out I miss the shooting sports much more than I thought I would. I miss the discussions here as well. I'll probably not meet anyone form the site but I feel like I have made friends here regardless. and I knew GB at Anniston many moons ago. Just good men and women here. Tough summer  physically but the light on that tunnel is coming into view and know my surgery is the only choice I have if I ever want to get in the field again. I wll build my rifle battery around the Handi Rifle. I think I'll get the Ultras in 308win, 25-06, 243 and 223 and put  good scopes and have many years of good shooting in store. I figure at 58 they'll last me the rest of my life. I guess all I can say now that it's good to be in the company of friends.
                                           God Bless,
                                            Jess

Well, I've learned quite a number of things by visiting this site, plus I have bought some items I wanted and sold some I no longer needed.  It's a good place to visit.

My dad was a golf-hater all his life, and I wish I could share some of his pithy comments about it but I suppose this isn't the place.  No doubt about it, golf isn't for everyone.

Once you get hooked by the gun bug, it's hard to shake.  Best wishes on getting your knee patched up.  I'm 58 myself, and already I look back wistfully on my 30's and 40's.

Welcome back. I drifted away from the the shooting sports for many years too. However, I did not sell my guns and reloading equipment. I have now gotten back into it and am into it up to my eye balls. I have added a few more guns to my battery and some more reloading stuff. I find it relaxing and then I found GBO and can share my experiences with other fine people.

I have hauled around some kind of gun since i was 7-8 years old. I have never laid the guns down completely. I had heard of golf but never tried it until i was about 35 yrs old, i be came hooked
and still play at least 2 days a week, shot 112 rounds last year. I don't get to the firing range as much as i should, wait till about 6-8 weeks before season opens, unless  i get a new Handi then
i can work in the time. I am lucky to have a place to shoot at work, the people that own this co are gun nuts.
Glad you are back.

From one returnee to another: Welcome back!

I didn't sell all my guns, but many were liquidated after receiving a release notification letter at work last fall.

The company I worked for was closing the plant and moving it to Malaysia and Taiwan, and my services were no longer needed after Feb 29th. About this same time (this past January) my wife's heart condition forced her to quit work, so it was time to go lean at home and eliminate some bills while I looked forward to starting over at age 49.

I'm happy to report that I'm still working and she's doing fine.

I was in here about two years ago or so.  When I came back it had been so long I had to re-register again.  I can still track back and see some of my very old postings.  Welcome back.

Actually you didn't. You could have just gotten with me and I'm sure we could have gotten you in business with the old user name in no time. All I really require in such situations is adequate evidence you are the same person who used the account previously and not someone trying to steal the account. Most everyone can come up with enough to convince me of that if they really are the original user of the name.

If the posts are still there the acccount still is and it's a pretty simple matter to get a person restarted with their old account. I've done it for dozens of folks.

You wrote: June 09 I'll get my new improved right knee. (knee replacement). Why wait that long?
I was in the same boat two years ago I waited too long. But had since both my knees replaced three month apart in 06 and 07 Dec and March. Did it during the winter so I did not miss the hunting, even spent CHRISTmas in the hospital for the first one..

Do it right away if you can, you don't know what you are missing. I walk easy three miles, can get into my sea kayak,  chase pheasants, ride a bike, hunt deer. It is a blessing. No more pain.

Glad to have you back, all the best

Welcome back Jess, I have had both hips done and arthroscopic surgery to a knee and elbow since I retired 8 years ago, and as Fred M asked, why wait?. Get it done and then get on with life my friend. We are all glad you are back and all the best to you. And don't give up golf yet, I still carry my bag 18 holes. No carts for me, at least not now after the surgeries, my quality of life is much better now ...<><....:)
