Handi Varmint Control
« on: August 05, 2008, 01:44:01 PM »
Been lurking here for a while soaking in all the good information.  Picked up a .223 Handi bull barrel in June for varmint control around the farm.  Put a no-name 3-9x40 scope from a Marlin 336 gun package on it.  So far I have a little under a box and a half of ammo through it and two groundhogs are no longer eating our veggies.

Thanks for the great site.

Jim

Looks like a standard barrel, and it seems to be working for ya!  Be sure to share more info when you want, and welcome.  DP

I love to shoot GH's. Unfortunately I do not get many opportunities. I have shot 3 this year. They stick to tall weeds, overgrown fence rows and wood lots. They only venture out to an edge once in a while and when they see you they dive back into the tall cover. Ground Hogs get a lot of shooting pressure from locals here, so they are not real numerous and to survive they have build their homes in the tall stuff. Most of my shots are under 100 yards.
Great men have vision and resolve to make dreams come true.

Yeah the groundhogs are pretty wary around here also and tend to spook easily.  These two have a den in a stand of trees on the other side of some field fencing from one of my wife's gardens.  They were doing a job on the beans, melons and pumpkins.  They were out at 60 paces or so from the barn.  There is still at least one more in the same den that I need to take care of.
