Price check .223 HR Ultra
« on: July 26, 2008, 06:50:00 AM »
I got a line on a .223 HR ultra... used, appears to be in great shape, no scope.  What is the going price for one? And do all Ultras have the bull barrel?  I think this has one.

I live in CA and the local Spotsman's Warehouse sells them new for $329  Mine has the HX prefix - which is supposed to be the 1:9 barrel.  I haven't had a chance to fire mine yet (due to other projects) and just last night mounted a 3-9x40mm Burris FFII Tac scope using the "signature zee" medium rings.  I bought the insert kit and dialed in 20 MOA of mechanical elevation, but still had to take a few thousands off the tip of the hammer...

Before Tax, he is asking $180.00.  What twist rate is desireable in the Ultra?

That's a "steal"...  Anyways, for some reason many chain-stores seem to have higher prices in CA, I guess they figure we really can't go elsewhere and by the time you add in shipping and an FFL transfer, buying mail-order costs as much or more.  :(

1:9 is the better twist if you want to shoot bullets heavier than 55gr.  The 1:12 seems preferred by varminters shooting bullets in the 40 - 55gr range.

ECV Slick,  This is a Used gun, Serial # prefix is HV XXXXXXXXX so I think its an earlier model, with that in mind, do you think I should jump on it?

If you want it and the price sure sounds good I would jump all over it. If you wait someone else is gonna get your jewl. You never have enough guns sometimes you end up paying to much, sometimes you get a deal. The joy comes when you get it out fondle it a little and then make it go bang. BUY IT you will never be sorry

The V  serial number prefix makes it a 2005 model, 1:12" most likely, and an ejector, but nothing is in written in stone on either count, I have a 2004 204 Ruger and a 2005 22-250 that are both extractors. Either way it's a good buy and if there's something wrong with it, H&R has always been good about warranty work on second hand guns, hopefully Remington will carry on with the same practice.  ;)

I "Negotiated" $170.00  Out the door... I hope its not a Dog, sure looks to be barely used...   i.e. hinge area and ejector area the bluing is not worn and no significant scratches on the stock.

I think you did real well getting home for only $170  :o

I'd heard that the HX prefix was when they went to 1:9 twist barrels, but at the deal you got - you can surely get an extra barrel or two...

The 1:12 barrel should do just fine shooting 40-55gr bullets.  If you're into handloading you should really be able to get some outstanding results and possible even shoot some slightly heavier bullets.  Congrat's on the new rifle!
