Metal trigger guards at Midway
« on: July 24, 2008, 08:11:16 AM »
Have any of you noticed that Midway now has steel and brass trigger guards and forend spacers for the Handi Rifle?

Do a search of Moyers trigger guards here at GBO and you will find that most if not all who reported on them would not buy them again. They are unfinished and even after finishing, do not fit well. If you look, it says "coming soon", in the past this meant many, many months with out returned emails or even if they were coming. This is a free country and you can do what you want. I am going to wait for the ones that come out of Talley Manufacturing. I think they are going to be more expensive, but of much higher quality. Here is a link about the Talley stuff.

My understanding of the problem wiht the trigger guards is a small gap between the back of the guard and the stock. right?

Could a small plate be placed under the back to give it the look of a long trigger guard?

(as you may have guessed I really want a metal trigger guard).

Have there been similiar complaints about fit with the Moyers metal spacer?

This is the last email I got from Tom Moyers, he forwarded a compaint from another customer....

To Moyer's Gun Repair

I received your steel trigger guard for my H & R single shoot rifle yesterday.  I removed the plastic trigger guard and installed your after market trigger guard.  Getting the trigger guard into the frame was quite a project and the metal to metal fit was terrible.  After installation, the hammer could not be set when cocking the rifle.  I worked on this problem for quite a while and then put the original trigget guard back in the rifle and it worked fine.

I am very disapointed in your after market trigger guard as it was shipped to me.  Quality was poor and so was fit.  I realize that the price being what it was, maybe I shouldn't have expected more but I did.

Sending the trigger guard back is one option but I will leave it up to you as to what I should do next.

Please reply

Sincerely

David L.

And Tom Moyers response to me...

Has anyone ever bought one of the replacement plastic ones from Brownell's?  I was thinking I might be able to get a metal one made using it as a template. Wouldn't really want to have my rifle disassembled while trying though. Here in ENC we have a lot of people with experience recreating metal parts, the Naval Air depoy here repairs aircraft that the last "factory" parts were made for 40 years ago.  At least one of my former students has custom made his own for antique Mausers and M-1's (his grandfather's actually).

The parts at Brownell's are H&R factory parts, they even have the factory part numbers listed.  ;)

Yes, that's what I sent Talley for reproduction, see the sticky on that topic. I offered to send the factory TG and spacer to Moyers, but he wasn't interested.  ???

That is an inexcusably poor reply...  I would NEVER give a cent of my business to someone like that - even if they were the last resource for a product.  ::)

Fortunately, my stock is synthetic - so the synthetic trigger guard is of no consequence to me.  However, if I had an "exibition quality" wood stock, I'd want a metal TG, but it wouldn't come from Moyers.
Politicians and diapers both require frequent changing for the EXACT same reason…

We swapped a bunch of emails when I tried to convince him that his reproduction copy was based on an obsolete version and doesn't fit current production firearms well, that was the last response I got from him, I don't think he has a clue what Customer Service is or cares. ::)
