Cleaning a Cylinder on a revolver
« on: July 16, 2008, 09:36:13 AM »
Besides Stainless, how do you clean the cylinder on a Matte or Blued finish.  I want to be careful not to remove the finish.  Historically on the stainless, I use Hoppe # 9 and a bronze brush.  I have heard this is too much for a matte finish.  Any help is always greatly appreciated.

Hoppe's #9 won't hurt the finish on a blued or matte finished gun...does cause peeling on nickel plated guns.  Try a nylon bristle brush and some Hoppe's on the front of the cylinder and the bronze bore brush in the chambers.

I clean the chambers of my revolvers with a bronze brush mounted in an electric drill and Shooter's Choice. I then clean the face of the cylinder with a bronze brush that looks like a tooth brush. I get mine from Brownell's.
