Fox Model B barrel removal
« on: July 13, 2008, 11:09:45 AM »
Hi;
   I have a Fox Model B, 12 ga. side by side and need assistance in removing the barrel. I can get the fore end off but so far cannot separate the barrels from the receiver. Can anyone show me the way please?

Your Model B is real similar to my 311 Savages.  You pull off the forend.  No tools needed.   I forget if the B had a finger locking mechinism or if you simply pull.  With the forend off put a hand on the barrels and simply open the action.  Brace the stock under your arm and break the gun as if you are going to load it and pull down on the barrels.  It should hinge off.  If you used tools to remove just the wood of the fore end the forend Iron will prevent the barrels from opening far enough for removal.
Hope this was helpful.
Brian.

Hey 32WINSPL:   mcwoodduck is correct.   On the FOX B, Simply pull down on the front of the Forend.  They're kind of tight.  And the Forend will pop off.   Leave the little screw on the Forend alone.  Don't take it out.    When you break open the action be ready for the barrels to come off. :D

Thanks for the information. I tried it out but it did not seem to work. Fully assembled there is a screw that holds the fore end onto the barrels. I removed this screw and pulled the fore end wood off by pulling it forward. I next broke the action open. I then placed the opened gun on my knee and tried to remove the barrels. I forced down near the muzzle with my left hand and down on the butt end at the heel with my right. I used enough force so as to feel I was straining but to no avail. I could not get her apart. Could there possibly be something else that needs doing? I noticed a flat head screw on the exposed end of the receiver but did not remove it. This screw points to the rear of the shotgun. If there are any other thoughts, let me know. I would like to get this baby into two sections. Thank you.

32WINSPL; Unless your gun has been altered, this is how your gun's Forend should look.

Four Bee;
              Thanks for your persistence. The pictures really tell the story and I was able to perform the barrel removal. I was doing the job incorrectly. Thanks also mcwoodduck. You guys were great!
