Found it at the Dothan Gun Show! (S&W 63)
« on: July 11, 2008, 09:07:24 AM »
Dothan, AL GS Report:

Found it! Wooo Hooo!

July 5
Got there at 9:00, there was already a line to get in, but it moved pretty quick. Not a bad show. More tables filled than usual.
MY 63 was in the first isle at the very back. First time I've been specifically looking for something and FOUND it.
I was happy to pay the $435 OTD for it, too. In the box, 63 no dash, all the papers and the cleaning brush and mop.
My "need" to be at the show lasted all of about 5 minutes. Couldn't have been better. Oh yeah, it was the ONLY 22 caliber S&W there.
Would have liked to met some of the guys, but maybe next time.

..........Great find.....I did the same thing at a store that is on my "check every few months on a Road trip" and I didn't even know I needed a 63 untill I saw it reposing in the display......mine is same as yours 63 and I didn't get a box or cleaning rod or papers...BUT it did have a set of hand carved real stag grip pannels that were polished down so they weren't rough on your clothes or hands and I traded at 450$ and was happy I made the stop.....I had and traded off 34's and 43's in the past and love good old blue guns but the 63 is great for knocking about and in the fishing boat and not showing wear as fast......enjoy the new gun....while you can...my daughter saw the 63 and I think I might have lost ownership but will still get to clean it.....lol

Mine (actually my wife's as I bought it for her) was bought new in box back when they were still being made it is a no dash model as well. I have no clue if we still have the box or even the original grips as many long years ago I put Pachmayr compacts on it for her. I doubt I paid much if any over $200 for it all those long years ago but it's been way to many years for me to remember what I gave for it really.

She's fired it darn little and while I've carried it a bit in the woods over the years I too haven't put a lot of rounds thru it. The little gun is still near mint condition other than removal of grips which I don't even know if I still have them or not. Really matters not since it will never be sold anyway.

Like GB, I paid about $200. for mine new in the box many years ago.  It has had less than a box of ammo put through it, still in original box in the safe.  I don't use a .22 that much, and when I do, I prefer either the Ruger Single Six (.22/.22 Mag) or one of my autos.

Not a bad deal, considering the Hogue grips run about $80+ each. They do nothing for me, but they cost that much. I'd have to sell the 22 mag as 38 special costs the same to shoot, but is more versitile.

I like mine, I just haven't shot it enough...YET!

Believe me, it was difficult to "pull the trigger" on those at that price, but then I look at the latest S&W new prices, and it gets easier to pay that for a well-made classic as opposed to what the new folks in Springfield are offering today.

Those two are destined to be Chrismas presents for the grand-kids... some day.  ;D
