Sportster question...

My sportster is stamped "22 Long Rifle"... does this mean I can only shoot Long Rifle ammo or will my rifle also shoot shorts? Thanks!

It will shoot Short's , Long's and Long Rifle ammo with no problem at all , mine likes the Remington shorts very well , they are my rainy day basement rounds when Mama is not home . 

It also does well with the CCI Stingers and I use them for tree rats in the fall after the leaves are down .

Some barrels will shoot some of the 22 ammo very well and others look like a shotgun pattern , It will tell you what it likes , so you may have to try a few diffrent brands & types till you find the sweet spot .

Thanks Stimpy! I haven't put a scope on it yet but I'll have it done well before hunting season starts... I did kill a water bottle this afternoon though...

I had one of  those WB's charge one day , their not real fast or hard to kill but they are known to sneek up on you . 

As for a scope I'm not having the best of luck with the BSA's so maybe a Bushnell or even a Barska would be a better choice for a low cost optic . Its not like your going to be shooting 300 yards .

You've also got the option of CB, BB and No Gunpowder ammo in that chamber.  All are very low power and a bit quieter than a short.  There are also shot shells available.
