f. r. o. barrel problem?
« on: July 24, 2003, 12:05:14 PM »
I have a .308 full bull 15'' stainless barrel i got about 2 weeks ago . I didn't get the forend right away so i shot it with the rubber one it shot ok at 25yds with some hollow points i had laying around i think they were 168gr . I loaded up some 150gr bulistic tip hornadys and shot it with my new forend and the bullets are tumbleing i tryed the rubber forend and the other shells it shot good with , :( and they tumble to . I tried differnt charges with the 150' s and the same thing . The barrel is not even broke in , maybe 15 rounds thru it i clean it after every shot.

I would suspect the crown rather than the forend - have it checked out by a competent gunsmith.

I agree with Buford, sounds like a crown problem to me. Unless they made you a barrel with an unusually slow twist. You may want to check that first before recrowning. KN
