A quick rundown.
Three years ago a friend had a new 204 in a bolt gun. I used it on a groundhog hunt and fell in love with the cartridge. In 2006 I bought a new HR 204. Love it, shoots under a dime with 32 gr V Maxs. My friend had a chance to sell his bolt for a profit and he also got a HR 204 2007.
Shoots the same.
In 06 I bought a new HR BC. Love it and it loves WIN 300gr HPs.
That did it, I am becoming a HANDIHOLAC as you can see by my avatar. Not as bad as some of you ( TIM ) but I'm getting there.
Now we both have LIMITED EDITION 223s. Mine 2006 gray. his 2007 brown. Mine shoots ULTRAMAX 52gr BTHPs pretty good. It has a 1 in 12 twist.
His will not shoot any factory ammo under 5". Hand loads with 60gr around 2.25" at best. We have tried all of the tricks in the FAQs with no luck. His is 1 in 9 twist.
No one told him the twist had been changed. He wants to shoot lighter bullets.
Now he just bought a new 2007 BC and it hates 300gr HPs, 7 to 8 inch groups.
He had the bore slugged at my request and it measures .467.
Now he is really upset.
Mine slugs out at .457.
When did they make that change, and not tell anyone?
Weather it be HR/NEF, MARLIN, or REMINGTON, what the heck are they doing.
Why mess with things?
If my friend had been told that these guns had to shoot the heaver bullets then he would not have bought them. Heavy is not what he wants, especially when he sees how well my guns in the same calibers do.
Why would they do this? It only hurts them. He says he will probably never buy another NEF/HR again.
What are some of your thoughts?
