Goodbye H&R
« on: June 27, 2008, 11:25:44 AM »
Just wanted to say it will be sad to see H&R go.
I went up Gardner on Wed June 18th to drop off my gun to have 6 barrels fit.
They called me on Wed June 25th to tell me they where all set.
Picked em up on Thurs
Great Turn around for the barrels.
There customer service was the best.
I will not deal with Remington because of there off shore manufacturing of sub standard garbage.
Guess the 6 barrels will have to hold me for a while.

Remington bought Marlin who owns H&R. Friday June 20th was the last day to drop off or send in barrels to be fit in Gardner.
All barrels will now be fit by Remington so who really knows where or the quallity of the work now.
I wont send any more in now.
Reminton sold out and is making garbage overseas so good luck with them.

Remington makes NOTHING overseas they merely import a previously manufactured and imported line of rifles and put their name on them. They same guns have been coming into this country for years with other brand names on them. Remington just jumped on the bandwagon to make some of the money made by other folks selling those same guns.

They are and were long before Remington decided to import them with a Remington name on them. Still Remington DOES NOT MAKE THEM they merely import them. They were already being made and imported by someone else long before Remington decided they wanted a piece of the pie.

Graybeard is correct, as usual.  Remington is importing guns made in Baikal, Russia, then stamping the Remington name on them.  Not a smart move on their part, IMHO.  I've handled Baikal guns that were made before the Remington buyout, and after, and I must say that in the cases I've seen, they are not an improvement in quality.

Every one has an opinion about guns. They form them from experience and or bias. Some like certain brands and some don't. I happen to like Remington as well as Marlin, H&R, Savage and Ruger among a smattering of others such as Ithaca and T/C. I have 3 Remington rifle and shotguns. One is a Super Mag 870, a Speed Master 22 auto and a 700 rifle. All three guns have been reliable and are well made. What is not to like? But that is my opinion.

I didnt mean to go off on a rant about Remington i was after all refering about the unfortunate closing of H&R.
I own 2 remingtons a 700 BDL and a 870 both great guns.
I was also the unfortunate owner of a Remington Spartan SPR 100.
It fired a total of 7 Shots .
Went back to Remington 3 times.
And was sold for a loss .
It would fire them lock up so tight you couldnt open the action .
After the 3rd trip to Remington they sent me a new one that wouldnt lock up at all.
So i sold it.
Now you can see my problem with Remington
