Stocking Dealer?

Just a fluke, I happened to stumble on a Gun/Sporting Good shop that is reopening. I knew the owners from the last time they were operating. I was looking for a BFR 475 Linebaugh. Donno why the sudden interest in the caliber but anyway, the owner said they had an FA Premier in stock. Hmm, in stock? It hit me that it an unusuall term in this these times of Global, internet, no-inventory business practices we've evolved to. Not a problem really for those products of consistant quality like FA. The price was in line w/the product ~ no fire sale there.

The story goes that it, and its consecutive numbered brother was acquired from a forced closure of another gun store in the early/mid 90's. It had languished stored in a safe ever since. Its brother was sold 3yrs ago. I've a field grade 454 Casull but this really looked nice, uncertain if they were made better back then nor anything else about by-gone production. I really like it, but concerned that there might be something adverse about the early ones. Is there anything that would/should deter me from getting it? Wish I had its s/n ~ Sure is purty w/7.5" barrel which balances nicely! Any reason to pas on it?

FA didn't announce the .475 Linebaugh Mdl.757 until 1999, so it wasn't in a store in the early to mid nineties. The 757 nomenclature ( and other such numbers for various calibers ) was dropped in 2002, with the newer guns simply called Mdl. 83's, so that will help you approximately date the gun . I have 3 FA .475's made between 1999 and 2002. All have been superb, with no problems.

Was wondering about that myself ~ I 'think' I saw model 83 on the box (was having some deep side discussions read: distract ons, while looking). It was part of a consecutive set, could it have been a custom order (before becoming a cataloged cal)? The box label indicated it was not legal to sale in Massachusetts

It did have a humongous bore lock about the size of a jack handle, IIRC was by rocky mtn lock co of CA. My own was purchased last yr, but didn't have that kind of lock. Wish I had thot to make note of the s/n ~ I'm sure FA could tell me more.

Guess I'll have to hop down there and look closer ~ make/take some notes. Thanks for the tips ~

With the s/n 02XX, contacted FA and determined it birthed 29 Nov 99. Thats the monday following ThanksGiving that yr. Linda confirmed no warranty card had been received yet so as long as it comes w/the revolver, I can secure a lifetime warranty. Mind at ease.

Fortuately, dealer accepted an offer of tradein so we started the CA paperwork. Started because here we can do only one handgun a month ~ and I purchased one just last week. So, a month from now, we submitt the sale and start the 10day backgrnd phase which shud put me off until 1Aug ~ yes month after next. Of course you all know that CA has its share of mickeymouse. However, on a positive note, we do have prop 13 anti tax (property) growth cap and . . . . gosh thets the only positive thing that I can come up with at the present
